Imperfectly Perfect

by Hillary on July 2, 2010

Today was an imperfectly perfect day; it was a wonderful way to start the holiday weekend. Ok, who are we kidding… I have a 3-month-long holiday. After running 4 days in a row [Monday – Thursday], my body was not game for another run today. While away at school, I have a huge ‘playground’ to keep my exercise interesting – from the indoor track to Zumba and my new love, spinning! However, I do not have a ‘free’ membership to a gym at home; hence, the increased amount of outdoor running this summer. If I was at school [in the 100* heat – no thanks!], I probably would have done a spin workout today; since I’m not, I checked in my cute spin class clothes for the real deal.

Extremely unflattering bike attire: imperfect.

Bike ride with my dad: perfect.

My dad hooked me up with all the right gear – from padded leggings to gloves and glasses – and then we were off in the wind… just us two. It was a little nerving getting onto an actual rode bike, but I managed to stay on top of the bike the entire 17.35-mile ride – wahoo. The initial headwind: not so perfect.

Though, there were quite a few perfect things to keep me distracted along our ride:

Horses

Blue Sky

008

Yellow Wildflowers

009

Crashing Waves of the Pacific Ocean

Rusty Bridges + Rippling Rivers

Before our ride, I had a skimpy bowl of cold cereal for breakfast [my newest craving], so afterwards I was more than hungry. I quickly showered and then my mom took me to a new-to-me cafe for a late lunch. A famished bike rider + a longgg wait for our food = imperfect. A fresh peach, pecan and chevre spinach salad = perfect.

The rest of my day was spent spontaneously running errands with my mom. I live for days like this when little imperfections turn into a perfectly good day.

It’s back to running again in the morning: 9 miles @ 7:30am! May you have an imperfectly perfect, relaxing weekend…

I LOVEEEEEE riding my bike outside! Something about just looking at nature, listening to my favorite music, and the lovely sun always puts me in a good mood.
I have yet to try spinning though – I’m sure I would like it if I love riding my bike!
Glad you enjoyed your day!
