Unmentionables

by Hillary on July 11, 2010

HI!

Hooray, I finally have time for bloggin’! I’ve worked my little big behind off the past four days, and it feels so so good to sit down and relax. I am working again tomorrow, but then I have a b.r.e.a.k.

Yesterday’s event was extremely longgg. I clocked in a total of 13 hours! The wedding was at a campground-ish area on the river, yet this was no casual wedding. The bride looked like a princess as she pulled up to the ceremony in a horse-drawn carriage. Setting up a reception for 300 people, prepping food for 300 people, serving food for 300 people, and then cleaning up after 300 [drunk] people is a lot of work, people. Overall, the event went well on our part. But… the bride was not too happy that her cake collapsed! [We were not responsible for this.] Shouldn’t the cake baker know better than to leave a 4-tiered cake sitting in the 90* heat!? I was terribly sad for the bride; that would be my worst wedding nightmare!

I have to admit, with little chance to blog this past week, I also avoided filling up my camera card with my eats. Think of it as a good thing though, because now I’m motivated to do my thing again…

Today’s brunch.

001

Van’s + a perfect peach, pecans, unsweetened coconut, and drizzle of real maple.

Today’s dinner [apparently, only yellow & green were invited to the party].

017

organic lettuces + arugula, fresh parsley, grilled tofu, avocado, cucumber, tomato, peppers, vinaigrette, salt and pepper

   015

steamed farmers’ market squash + basil chevre

I’ve written a couple posts about running attire: 1) My First Running Skirt & 2) My Running Shoe Relationship; though, I’ve failed to mention the ‘unmentionables’.

As a top-heavy athlete, any generic sports bra will not do the job – no cute and colorful under garments for me : ( I need a bra with a lot of support, and unfortunately, most that do that are expensive [I’d rather suffer the price of a good bra, than suffer the physical pain] and not stylish. I can rarely find a racerback that does the trick. That is, until I came across Bounce, Title Nine’s extensive bra collection.

I decided for as much as I exercise, having more than 2 sufficient sports bras was necessary; I chose the Triple Threat Underwire.

I can’t give it an honest review yet, as I haven’t given it a true test-run, but so far it fits great… and it’s not too terribly ugly. I have high hopes.

  • Do you have any favorite exercise ‘unmentionables’?
  • Do you splurge on any particular exercise items/attire?

I hope you all had a nice weekend and are ready for the week ahead. How is it almost mid-July!?

Toodles!

Hillary

Haha I’m fortunate that I don’t need a super supportive bra. In fact, the more I workout, the smaller they get and the less supportive bra I need!

Catering a wedding would be my dream job!

OMG, I wish I needed a bra like that. I’m beginning to think I don’t need one at all!

running bras MUST BE COMFORTABLE! i don’t care what it looks like… i know if it’s not comfortable then i’m going to feel off my game.

I think splurging on a decent pair of shoes is definitely worth it. Attire, like tank tops and some running shorts, I can easily find at Target and not spend so much money. It’s good to think about what’s important to the exercises you enjoy and decide what’s worth it to spend your money on. I only do yoga once a week, so I found a cheap one at Target for $9!

So jealous of your dinner – it looks so summery and delicious!

Lululemon leggings are my splurge item – sooo much, but sooo worth it! I can’t justify spending $$$ on sports bras or tops, though. I like finding Hanes 3-packs on sale at Target.

Ugh, TOTALLY have the same problem! I go to a lot of “bootcamp” exercise classes with my mom and she just does not get how PAINFUL a lot of the drills can be due to excessive…um…bounceage :D

I will definitely be on the lookout for a bra like that. Discomfort is one of the main reasons I absolutely despise running, so maybe if I can remedy that, I’ll be out on the trail in no time…

I think its essential to spend money on a good bra and good shoes.

The one you showed here looks like a good one!

I have the same problem, and it is totally worth it to spend the extra money on a good, supportive bra. I have two bras from Title Nine. I really like the 3 Reasons Support bra, but didn’t find the Frog bra to be very comfortable. My all time favorite bra is still a plain old racerback Under Armour bra. It is funny because it doesn’t even come in cup sizes, but it really keeps the girls in place.

I am not overly well-endowed in the boobs department (which is fortunate for running endeavors, but less fortunate for other occasions!), but I DO splurge on Lululemon clothes. I bought 3 tops there this weekend and even though I know I could have purchased about 6 others for the same price at another store, these ones last forever and are super comfy.

I can totally relate, finding good sports bras is hard and $$$! I like the TaTa Tamer from Lululemon – it’s kinda pricey, but totally worth it, and really cute!

I spend money on good running shoes and yoga pants. Gotta protect those feet, and in a hot yoga class with lots-o-sweating, there is a need for high quality, breathable fabric that does not become see-through when wet or stretched over a bent body (or booty :) ).

I have that bra – and I loveeee it! And about sneakers – if you’re constantly using them then they are TOTALLY worth it. I found it out the hard way after training for last year’s half marathon in the wrong ones for my foot type. My advice: go to a local New Balance and get your feet scanned. My 1225s are the best investment I’ve ever made!

Weddings are SO MUCH WORK! I had no idea until I got married and WOW. It is just crazy! I can’t imagine all the clean up. Blech! Oh sports bras. I have a love hate relationship with those unmentionables. Honestly, my best luck has been with VS Sport. They have underwire and support and really hold me in. This one looks pretty great though and I am ALWAYS on the lookout for something better.
