Happy October Eve :) I’m having a hard time believing that we’re entering the 10th month of 2010, but they tell me it’s true. Gracie’s September favorites post today inspired me to sum up the positives of the past month in my life.
A few of my favorite things…
Food: late summer peaches.
Beverage: coconut water.
Exercise Move: planks.
I’m obsessed with these. I’ve always been an ab-exercise avoider, but not anymore. I do a few planks almost daily now. I like to do a variety [center, side, side + dips, twists]. The above photo is of a twisting side plank – I’ve learned to love the burn!

September has treated me well. It’s sad to say goodbye, but I will welcome October with open arms, especially if it means more oats like these!
Boil 1 cup water. Add 1/3 cup rolled oats + 1/2 ripe banana, sliced. Stir vigorously over medium-high heat. Then add 2 tsp. ground flax, and mix thoroughly. When oats are ooey gooey, add a dash of cinnamon and 1/4 cup pumpkin. Pour into a sparkling clean mason jar. Sprinkle with 1 T pecans, 1 tsp. brown sugar, and 1/2 tsp. unsweetened coconut. Savor every bite.
They did a great job fueling me up for a morning workout. [BTW, yoga made me so so so sore. Every-muscle-in-my-body sore!] I attempted to run it out:
- 1 mi. indoor track run @ 9:00
- strength training – abs, arms & legs.
- 1 mi. indoor track run @ 8:00
- 30-minute treadmill
5 minutes ea. @ 4.4 & 4.6mph – 6.0 incline
10 minutes @ 6.8mph – 2.0 incline
10 minutes @ 7.2mph – 0 incline
- 0.5 mi. indoor track run
