hopes and dreams.

by Hillary on December 31, 2010

You’ve heard me say several times before how I just love the first day of a new month. I love the idea of a fresh start, allowing us to forgive ourselves and others for mistakes and welcome change and possibilities. So, tomorrow is quite a big deal then. Not only is it the start of a new month, a new year… but I will wake up and walk into a new decade!

Twenty Ten was a good year indeed. I had several set goals – 10 in fact – and the majority of them did not get crossed off my list. I am the definition of Type A. I live by plans and schedules. I am a control freak, and I lack spontaneity. Instead of making a bunch of New Year’s resolutions, I want to let 2011 “resolve” me. I’m handing over the control to Life, and am quite excited to see what positive changes and adventures it has for me.

That said, I have a few dreams that I hope will come true this year. We shall see…

  • Erase the word “perfect” from my mental dictionary.

… this would help me in ways you couldn’t even imagine.

Note: Many of you seem to share a similar sticky sweet tooth and seem interested in how I plan to go about kicking my habit. I will share my thoughts and plans shortly.

  • Run a sub 1:40 half-marathon.

I would also like to clock in 1,000 miles this year, though it would be a chore to calculate =/

Life

Happy 2011!!

xo Hill

Happy New Year, Hillary! I love that picture – I just saved it as my background for my computer so I can see it EVERY DAY!

I definitely had it as my background for a while, too :)

I just found your blog, and I love that we are so alike! I’m a college student that is definitely type A…all about the schedules and plans and lacking any spontaneous action in my life. But, just like you, I hope to break that all down a bit this year! Good luck to both of us :)

Happy New Year! I log all my workouts on trainingpeaks.com, it’s free and you can easily see how many miles you’ve run over the year (or week, month, etc.) without calculating it yourself! Thought I’d share that with you :)

Thank you! What I meant was that I don’t have a Garmin Forerunner to calculate my mileage as I run, so I’d have to do it ‘manually’ by some GPS system on the computer for every new route I run.

I think letting go of “perfect” is a great idea! One of the best things you can do for yourself. I’m excited to run another half marathon this year. And I have some work-related goals, too.

Happy New Year!

I logged all my miles last year from January to August, but I got so lazy about it! You will do awesome in your goals. Good luck!

I have a huge sweet tooth, too, and so this year I’m going to avoid sugar at all costs and try to see how I do without and use natural sweeteners in my baked goods!

I absolutely LOVE that photo/quote thing. Amazing.
