Hi – Happy Running Tuesday! I had quite the happy day because I got to run in Upper Bidwell Park with blue skies, sunshine, and yesterday’s birthday girl Katie :)
Such a beautiful day for a trail run! We ran roughly 4 miles in 36 minutes, including 5 killer hill repeats at the end. It was hawt! I went to yoga later in the evening and did ~10 minutes of conditioning before class.
Believe it or, Week 1 of my plan for a slimmer summer is already finished. June is whizzing by!
Slimmer for Summer Recap: Week 1
- run > 20 miles roughly 19.5 miles
additional cardio: 3.8 miles TM walking // 20 minutes jump-roping // 15 minutes StairMaster
- cycle > 2 x 1 hr. classes 1 class + 20 minutes
- yoga > 2 x 1 hr. classes 3 classes
- strength train: 60 minutes total (~2-3x) roughly 30 minutes
I didn’t quite hit all of my goals for Week 1, especially with the strength training. However, I’m feeling a bit bulky, so I may go easier/lighter with the strength training and use yoga as my main source of conditioning. We’ll see. I got in a few wonderful outdoor runs and am looking forward to more of them before it gets unbearably hot.

My GI has been giving me grief for the past 24 hours, so I’ll save the treat talk for another time… but since it is RT, I filled out a short Q & A I read on Carrots ‘N’ Cake today.
Favorite treadmill? I’m drawn to a particular row of ‘mills at the WREC facing the front of the gym. (I like to people watch and see the latest gym fashion.) As long as the treadmill is working smoothly, I don’t have a favorite brand of machine.
Favorite shoes? Asics GT-2100s (currently 2160s). I’m on pair #6.
Favorite running song? I run to anything and everything. I’m diggin’ Party Rock Anthem and Give Me Everything at the moment (for all cardio).
Favorite running fuel? Depending on when I run… toast with nut butter + banana (pre-race fuel), or a cookie + green tea (simple sugars + caffeine for afternoon exercise), or an almond apricot energy bite.
Favorite running accessory? I’d say my hats. I rarely run outside without one (see above photo).
Favorite race distance? 13.1 – a challenging distance, long enough to enjoy the race you’ve worked hard to train for.
Favorite running memory? Oh, where to begin! …traveling with my high school cross country team, running the Clam Beach Run with my friend and laughing hysterically for the first five minutes of the race, my 1st half-marathon in Eugene with my college running club, and the list goes on and on…
