Still scrambling to find something for Mother’s Day this Sunday?
Check out my Mother’s Day Gift Guide.
Hi friends and happy Friday! It’s been a while since we last chatted over coffee. It is an oddly rainy/stormy May morning here in Northern California, and this unusual dreary spring weather inspired me to catch up with y’all over a virtual coffee date. So grab your beverage of choice — a matcha latte or classic cup of French pressed java, perhaps — and let’s catch up on life, shall we?
If we were having coffee this morning, I’d first talk about my extreme obsession with all things turmeric (I am currently sipping this golden milk iced coffee, and it is over the top good). I have also been making turmeric tahini salad dressing, turmeric energy bites (recipe to come), and dipping apples into homemade turmeric/maca/honey peanut butter — yes, my friend is a genius.
If we were having coffee this morning, I’d exclaim how fast and how slow the past six months have passed. P has been doing the military thing (like a champ, I might add) since late November. It is hard to believe he has already graduated from basic training, and will have completed Phase 1 of his nursing training next week. This also means he gets to come home for a few days before he leaves for Washington D.C.!
This military life is sure keeping me on my toes. P will do Phase II of nursing school in the capital city… until the end of March 2017. While I was not expecting this move, I try my best to smile at life and the road it’s taking us on. I’d say we have done a darn good job at long distance thus far, but being on opposite parts of the country does dig a pit in my stomach.
If we were having coffee this morning, I’d probably share my recent struggle with allergies and eczema. Growing up, I did not deal with either; in the past few years living in this agricultural valley, however, I’ve developed seasonal allergies. Honestly, guys, this has been sucking some of the light out of me recently. I have seen multiple doctors, had lots of testing done, and there are still pieces to the puzzle that are missing. The human body is complex, I know.
One thing we did discover is that I am heavily allergic to walnut trees, and mildly allergic to walnuts. I have a few other minor environmental allergies, too. With that, my body has broken out in rashes/eczema twice in the past six months — something I’ve never dealt with in my 26 years. Obviously it is frustrating (I could write a whole post on this really), but with patience, I am hopeful that my body and I can figure out how to heal from the inside out. I am a firm believer that “All disease begins in the gut.” – Hippocrates.
If we were having coffee this morning, I’d admit that I am obsessed with my Fitbit Charge HR™. So infatuated in fact, that I think I’ve realized a correlation with my resting heart rate and menstrual cycle. The little things that amuse me. Health nut to the max!
If we were having coffee this morning, I’d say that my Ebates account has gotten a lot of attention lately. Uh, yeah — online shopping may be my vice. Seriously though, I recently earned 15% cashback when I purchased a new pair of New Balance Fresh Foam 1080 and 10% cashback when Macy’s was having a killer sale this week. Ebates is terribly good at making online shopping that much easier.
- Oh, and all of next week, Ebates is celebrating their birthday with 15% cashback at 250+ stores!
If we were having coffee this morning, I’d confess my snack love of dried figs and creamy cashew butter. Don’t nix this unique combo until you try it. I’ll go to Costco just to buy the 2.5 pound bag of organic dried figs — yeah, I’m that girl.
Have you ever struggled with eczema? If so, do you have any suggestions?
