It’s Perfectly Normal…

April 21, 2010 by Hillary 18 Comments

(1) …to eat waffles every Wednesday and never get tired of them.

Van’s Low-Fat Multigrain Waffles topped with 0% Greek [mixed with Honey-Agave Syrup], Organic Strawberries & Almonds

(2) …to consume an entire 16 oz. container of 0% Greek in 2 days. Say hey to protein!

011 (2)

(3) …that salty tears turned my smartphone’s screen into a sea of rainbows and now I must wait two days to replace my 1-month-old Blackberry. Lesson learned: don’t cry on the phone.

(4) …for it to be rainy, wildly windy weather on Wednesday and by Friday, 80* clear blue skies.

(5) …to pack green hummus to take to school:

  • 100% Whole Wheat Flatbread + Edamame Hummus, Tomatoes, Cucumber & Organic Greens
  • 1 Organic d’Anjou Pear + 1 Slice Sharp White Cheddar
  • 1/2 c. Kashi Honey Almond Flax Cereal + 4 Dried Apricots – yes, I stretched the granola bar idea a little far.

(6) …to eat a victory garden’s yield of vegetables for dinner:

More Organic Greens, Edamame, Avocado, Tomatoes, Yellow Bell, Light Feta, Raw Sunflower Seeds, Seasoned Rice Vinegar & Olive Oil + Fresh Pepper

Health in every bite!

Haha…who am I kidding, I am not normal! ; )

I’m with you on the waffles! I have been eating the same bowl of oats every morning for the past month and I still wake up excited to eat it. Creature of habit, or scared of change? I prefer not to think too hard about that one.

Also, the weather thing? Yeah. I’ve got that too. Welcome to Italy!

Bummer that tears ruined your bberry. I am jealous that you’re getting nice weather for the weekend. Our outlook is the opposite – sunny for the week and then rain on Sat/Sun.

    (7) It is completely normal to have to wear your glasses all day because your eyes are too swollen from crying to put in contacts. (Plus, glasses help hide the swelling.)
    I hope you’re doing okay.

You make me want waffles every Wednesday : ) &&& you make me want to eat a large colorful salad (which is incredible since I am not a huge fan of salads & I’m really picky about my vegetables!)

I’ve really always wanted to try TJ’s Greek yogurt. Actually…all your meals look SO good. I don’t eat much cheese, but I have such a thing for white cheddar. It’s amazing with some raspberry or strawberry jam! Or probably any jam. And I’m jealous of your veggie-filled salad! It looks so colorful and refreshing.

If that’s not normal than I’m a freak of nature right along with you! I fully support ALL of the above. Except the crying/ruined phone, that’s no fun :(
I DO need to start eating more waffles. It’s clearly a MUST.

BIG chocolate chip muffin, Kozy Shack dark chocolate pudding, and Nutridel cookies (pecan or almond) crunched on top. so. freaking. delicious. the muffins i get come in a 4 pack (5 bucks EACH!) and i panic when i only have 1 muffin left in the 4 pack. i like HAVE to go to the store and buy another pack! :)

I say we’re more normal. Hah. Seriously though, I say the same thing. But in all honestly when I walk through my dorm halls smelling ramen, popcorn, and Domino’s I can’t help but smile and be glad I am NOT a part of that eating style. I cannot imagine not being healthy!

“Anxiety is a symptom, not a diagnosis.” - Dr. “Anxiety is a symptom, not a diagnosis.” - Dr. George Papanicolaou

It’s no secret that I suffer from chronic anxiety and panic attacks. Or at least I don’t intend it to be. Because while there can be a lot of shame and embarrassment around both of these, I know I’m not alone in my experiences. While I’ve leaned toward the more anxious side most of life, my bothersome anxiety has steadily increased since my mid-twenties - some periods being worse than others.

It’s not a complete surprise that my mental health has taken a dip during my first full gloomy Seattle winter — in the height of a pandemic.

Here are some ways I have been nurturing my body & mind as I work with a team of practitioners to work on understanding the **root causes** of my panic, and to live with more ease.

» no coffee (not even decaf)

» meditating regularly - I’m using @insighttimer

» gentle movement

» weekly therapy sessions

» attempting cold showers (this is hard for me!): if you’re interested, you can research how this impacts the nervous system

» working with a naturopathic doctor to focus on gut + hormone health

» trying a new Rx - a decision that took years of consideration

» lastly, opening myself up to vulnerable conversations/sharing my story and my experiences in efforts to reduce any shame and connect with others

I am not my anxiety.

Leavenworth, WA • Where To Eat🍴 I was expect Leavenworth, WA • Where To Eat🍴

I was expecting all things beer, brats and pretzels in Leavenworth (not really my jam) 🍺🥨🧀, and while there’s plenty of it, I was delighted to find plenty of delicious eats for my “foodie” taste.

We went to all of these 3 places more than once during our quick stay - highly recommend!

☕️ @argonautespressobar: Located at one end of Front Street, this adorable coffee bar has delicious espresso drinks, breakfast items, and the best view!

🥐 @tumwaterbakery: Incredible pastries, avocado toast on artisanal bread that’s a feast for your eyes... and I’m eager to go back and try their wood-fired pizza!

🍜 @yodelinbroth: Literally some of the best food I’ve had (ever!), and that’s saying a lot. I had the Yodelin soup with housemade wild PNW halibut bone coconut curry broth, udon noodles, heaps of veggies and wild salmon - it was nourishing to my core as we ate it outside in 30 degree weather. I even bought some of the broth to recreate this meal at home, yum!

winter wonderland getaway ✔️ We had snow much winter wonderland getaway ✔️

We had snow much fun exploring the picturesque Bavarian town of Leavenworth, WA for a much-needed mid-week getaway to the mountains. 🏔

We stayed in a cozy little cabin @logecamps right on the Wenatchee River (one day I’ll be back to stay at the stunning @phleavenworth), played in Enchantment Park, took a drive to Lake Wenatchee, and discovered some of the best food downtown (I’m saving my food recs for another post).

Nestled between the snow-capped Cascade Mountains with the river running through town, it’s quite magical in the middle of winter. ❄️ I’m already dreaming of heading back for some summer adventures!
I’m sure Koba is wondering why we ever lived in I’m sure Koba is wondering why we ever lived in Florida for two years.
