Case of the Mondays

May 24, 2010 by Hillary 25 Comments

I’ve got a bad case of the Mondays ya’ll, and I’m really stumped why that is. I woke up wanting banana pancakes; though too lazy to make them, I resorted to a banana mash waffle sandwich.

003

2 Van’s All Natural Low-Fat Waffles + 1 small mashed banana + 1T toasted chopped pecans + 1 tsp. coconut + 1 tsp. agave-honey blend

It did nothing to my hunger. I’m missing protein obvi!

After my routine a.m. blogging, I put on a casual, yet cute outfit that screamed: “Hire me!” and picked up my huge stack of freshly printed resumes and list of prospective people that would increase my savings account. Then I got in my car and spent the next two hours stopping in places around town in hopes that the economy was actually allowing business to hire a poor college student. The verdict: s0-so. “We just did a big hire”. “We might hire in the middle of the summer”. That’s convenient – not! The job hunt ain’t over…

How have you successfully found jobs? Any winning resume/interview advice?

With just a couple resumes remaining in my stack, I headed home completely spent. I don’t know what was up, but my Monday morning drained me of all energy. I refilled my tank with a wrap, but unfortunately, it didn’t increase my Monday mojo. It sure was tasty though!

011

1/2 whole wheat lavash + 1T organic hummus + 1/4 avocado + organic lettuce + Dr. P Cali Veggie Burger [again!]

I had to run downtown again after eating for a couple more errands. I made a pit stop at Starbucks for a caffeinated beverage – hoping that it would cut the yawning factor – but my soy latte only made me feel 10x worse. Something is surely up when I can not finish a latte. It’s a serious case of the Mondays.

I’ve spent the rest of the evening resting in my bed. I need a magical remedy stat because last night my BFF from high school texted me asking if she and her BF could come to visit. If you know me at all, spontaneity is my antonym, but I couldn’t turn down hanging out with my missed friend. Heck, it’s not like I have a job or anything… yet!

Now I need someone to put away the laundry on my floor, vacuum, and put a batch of cookies in the oven to make the house smell inviting. Anyone? Yeah, thought so… I better get busy.

GAH! Now I have the Office Space lady’s voice in my head. :)

My opinion, your photos are GREAT. I just changed lenses on my camera today to see if I could “do bigger photos” (I’m exhausted and my brain + language isn’t working!). Your photos always look good to me. :)

Have you seen the movie Office Space? :)

The receptionist walks by and says “Sounds like someone has a case of the Mondays”… I totally thought you were quoting that! :) My bad, I was raised on pop culture…

one of your cousin’s favorite movies…in fact, I just read on Twitter that one of his co-worker’s just bought it for viewing tonight per his reco…cult movie, I think, and probably 10 years old…but maybe something you are supposed to see when you are job hunting. Remember, job hunting is not fun for ANYONE…and I know that you will get hired…somewhere. really.

    2. Have you checked your local Red Bull Wings Team? I’m a college student too and just got hired. It’s a super sweet job and they pay well too. http://redbullcandidateportal.com/

Good luck on the job hunt!

I wish I could give you some advice about getting a job. The only reason I got offered a job was because my neighbor called me out of the blue and asked for me to be a nanny this summer.

I think your photos are the perfect size. They are big enough to see but not so big you can’t see them all in one screen shot on the reader. At least for me anyways.

Good luck on the job hunt! And I hope your day goes better today. :)

Picture size looks just right :)

What kind of jobs are you applying for? I think you’re on the right path by going in person… but maybe do a little research first to see who you should be asking to speak to? A lot of receptionists are gate keepers and never get your message to the decision maker.

Oh no I hope you are feeling better today. Not finishing your latte is a bad sign! I don’t know whether you have them in the US (you must do!), but I signed up with a load of agencies that search for jobs for you and get you interviews. They really work.

Sorry your Monday was so rough. I’ve definitely woken up in a funk that I couldn’t shake, for no apparent reason! But I hope today is better — especially since you get to see your best friend! :)

Good luck with the job search. I know it’s not easy for anyone, but hang in there! I’m impressed you actually went out there to meet people face-face. My method is usually to rely on the internet, which probably isn’t always the best way.

I like the size of your pictures! They’re good the way they are. And I wish you luck with your job search – just smile a lot, have a cheery attitude and ALWAYS follow up! Make sure you call them a couple days after you’ve dropped off a resume, it makes them pull it up again.

I’m in the middle of job searching right now and my aunt has been helping me “network” and just asking to meet for coffee or something and chat (rather than asking for a job or handing over my resume right away). I have gotten some good advice and tips from that, and more contacts. Hopefully it will help get a job down the line!

Instagram post 2188697053505017711_212296339 When you think of Beautycounter, 'small business' may not be the first thing that comes to mind.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
A B Corporation founded in 2013 that offers more than 150 products, is an advocacy leader for clean beauty, and was the number one Googled beauty brand in 2018? Not so small.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
But, the business I run is truly small. I wear many hats in my role not excluded to owner, mentor, consultant, customer service, accounting, marketing, and so on. I set my own personal goals and do what I can to work toward achieving them.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
While Beautycounter may be a loud voice in the beauty industry, I try to make the relationships with my clients sincere and personal. When you receive a follow-up email or thank you card or gift from me - those are written, purchased, planned, and sent by me. Much thought and many hours are put in behind the scenes.⁣⁣ 📬
⁣⁣
Not only is the majority of my work incredibly enjoyable, it is also entirely rewarding to be able to help you make the switch to safer and get safer products into your home.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Almost two years later, my Beautycounter business continues to grow - thanks to all of you. I am THANKFUL for this opportunity to be your consultant. Thank you for supporting my small business and the clean beauty movement!⁣⁣

Instagram post 2183017690054888249_212296339 If you think I’m just selling lipstick, you’re not paying attention. 💄⁣
⁣
Swipe right to see how I feel when someone asks “So, what’s next?” (a.k.a. “When are you going to get a real job?”)⁣
⁣
You see, I don’t look at it like they may: switching from a wonderfully unique job in corporate wellness to “selling skincare and makeup”, working from home (or wherever I please). ⁣
⁣
Instead, I see how aligned my life and career path has been. I went from working for one incredible environmentally-conscious, family-owned company that puts people and the planet first while simultaneously creating a product that leads its craft industry (🍺) to another: a forward-thinking @bcorporation that is transparent about their sourcing/ingredients and advocates for social change while consciously creating personal care products that perform.⁣
⁣
By purchasing @beautycounter ’s beautiful products this holiday season (or any time of year), you’re doing more than gifting a gorgeous lip gloss or luxurious moisturizer. You are voting with your dollar for #cleanbeauty to be the norm; most importantly, you are showing that you give a damn about your health, the health of your loved ones, and the health of our planet.⁣
⁣
For me, it’s all about health — it always has been and always will be. ⁣

Instagram post 2181017522292059910_212296339 It’s been fun, Hyde Park. ⁣
⁣
As it turns out, staying in an itty bitty AirBNB for 6 weeks(!) while our floors got replaced wasn’t so bad after all. To be honest, I enjoyed the boujee South Tampa life much more than life in the suburbs. ⁣
⁣
I’ll miss walking to free community yoga classes in the village, neighborhood walks with Koba admiring the humongous, historic century old homes, treating myself to many @buddybrewcoffee matcha lattes just because, the 5 minute drive down Bayshore Boulevard to workout at the base gym, and more. ⁣
⁣
Sometimes, most times, it does us justice to shake up our environment. Because what at first seemed like it’d be a headache turned out to be a blessing in disguise — the gift of feeling C A L M when “home base” was in a season of transition. ⁣
⁣
Thanks for a few of my favorite weeks in Florida,⁣

Instagram post 2169125642797255035_212296339 My first yoga class in almost ✌🏻years!⁣
⁣
Woke up early, had a cup of decaf, took Koba on a cool walk around the neighborhood, and then walked to @lululemon for their free Sunday morning yoga class. It was humbling to say the least.⁣
⁣
The sounds of the singing bowl while in savasana reminded me of my beloved classes with @lisaweberyoga and then strolling through the monthly farmer’s market afterwards... for a brief moment, I felt at home.

Instagram post 2168509648563100656_212296339 life update 〰️⁣
⁣
We’ve been temporarily out of our (rental) house since October 14 because the floors needed to be replaced. Nick’s been traveling a lot for work lately and Koba and I traveled to Colorado only to return to staying in an @airbnb for an unknown amount of time (of course a two week project is now looking closer to 4-5 weeks).⁣
⁣
We could be moving out of state soon, but that’s up in the air, too. 🤷🏽‍♀️ Needless to say, nothing really feels settled. Even though our house is completely gutted, most of our things are difficult to access, and I’m living out of my suitcase, Nick and I are oddly enough enjoying this AirBNB (appropriately named The Tree House) more than our home.⁣
⁣
While it is no bigger than a shoe box with a pint sized kitchen, we *feel better* here. Nestled in Old Hyde Park, I can walk the 3 blocks to my favorite local coffee shop for an iced oat milk matcha latte and window shop at @lululemon. Unlike the busy suburb in which we live, people are constantly outside walking their dogs, jogging, playing with their kids at the park, chatting with friends by the fountain. These little things all bring me a silly amount of joy.⁣
⁣
It’s often during times of change and uncertainty that I recognize the important things — the shit that matters. ⁣
⁣
I recognize my ability to be flexible when I am a homebody at heart. I recognize my longing for community and that small town, local vibe. I am grateful for my jobs that allow me to work from literally anywhere, and I feel really lucky to have Nick and Koba by my side. One day, sooner than later, we will look back and laugh at these Florida memories. 🌴⁣
