Will Work for Food

June 25, 2010 by Hillary 19 Comments

I’m not feeling well again tonight, so I’m going to try to write this as speedy as I possibly can… which I’m sure will not be speedy in the slightest.

004

Yesterday I took my running skirt on its first adventure – which happened to be a 61-minute run around town. I am definitely a fan. It might even be half-marathon race material : ) My running attire varies some from more-fitted capris to typical running shorts and cotton tees. The weather is obviously the determining factor.

  • What do you prefer to wear running/exercising?
  • What do you think of running skirts – silly, comfy?

001

My Friday began like every other, since I’ve been home, with 1 hour of DanceFit. After class, I ran home – literally – and made a speedy serving of steel cut oats in my new big blue birthday bowl mug.

  • 1 c. water
  • 1/3 c. steel cut oats
  • 1/2 T flax
  • organic S + B-berries
  • sprinkle of raw sugar

I ate my breakfast in front of my computer screen, per usual, then jumped in the shower for a speedy scrub, packed a few simple snacks, and then it was time to prep for The Big Day!

I spent 3 hours chopping 100 pounds of red potatoes. I also must have minced at least 100 garlic gloves – I smelled sexy!

Tomorrow is going to be one heck of an experience. Thankfully, my aunt has kindly offered to be my helper. There is a lot of squash to be sautéed and 100 pounds of potatoes to be roasted. I’ve got my fingers crossed…

The cooking didn’t stop when I got home. Even though my mom made homemade pizza for dinner on Monday, I had a craving for it again tonight. There’s no rule that you can’t have pizza twice in 1 week… not that I’m aware of anyway!

…and a [dark] salad of homegrown greens.

My dad just poured me a cup of Tazo Calm Tea. I don’t think I’ll be able to fully relax until tomorrow’s said and done.

Hope ya’ll have a wonderful weekend… I really do : )

Wow, that pizza looks great, as do steel cut oats too of course!

I actually was hesitant to try my running skirt, but found out I loved it after my first run too. Other than that, I wear my many Nike legging/capris and tanks and tees.

    Feel better soon!

I love my running skirt! I thought they were silly before I tried one, but they are surprisingly comfortable. And you don’t have to worry about things riding up…the only time I haven’t enjoyed wearing one is when there is a lot of humidity in the air. For whatever reason, I’ve had an issue with chafing after wearing my running skirt during humid mornings. I’m not sure if shorts would have solved the issue, by any means…but other than that, I heart my running skirt! I’m glad you like yours too. :)

I think running skirts are super cute and stylish! I’ve never worn one, but they look nice on most people.

And that pizza??!! Yum! Looks amazing!

I like running skirts but not for running. haha…I actually like them for running errands. They are super comfortable for lounge wear in my opinion, but not for actually exercising.

Ha! I had pizza 2 times last week for dinner, too. Amy’s Kitchen – pesto and margherita. yum yum.
As for skirts – I think they’re cute! A way to be feminine and sporty at the same time. :)

I hope your day goes well! That pizza and those oats look GREAT. Your food pics always make me hungry lol.

I’ve never actually run in a running skirt, I’ve kinda always thought them weird? It looks cute on you though! I’m not sure if I’m daring enough to try one. I usually just throw on cotton tees, running shorts or capris.

I’ve never worn a running skirt, but I’ve been looking for a good one to invest in! I’ve heard great things about them and I definitely don’t think they’re silly.

I’ve been thinking about getting a running skirt too. I think they are cute and look fun, but I haven’t tried one myself. Hoping to score one on sale at TJMaxx :)

I like to run in tight compression-like capris although I am getting more used to the idea of shorts if it’s hot out there! I tried on a running skirt but felt like a tennis player and opted for shorts instead. Glad you like yours though…whatever works, right?

That pizza looks FABULOUS! I say, eat pizza as many times a week as you want – especially when it’s homemade!

I LOVE running skirts. I just need to purchase one that fits me better. The three I have were bought on Ebay all together. They are Champion brand and a size small, but they are pretty loose around my waist. :(

“Anxiety is a symptom, not a diagnosis.” - Dr. “Anxiety is a symptom, not a diagnosis.” - Dr. George Papanicolaou

It’s no secret that I suffer from chronic anxiety and panic attacks. Or at least I don’t intend it to be. Because while there can be a lot of shame and embarrassment around both of these, I know I’m not alone in my experiences. While I’ve leaned toward the more anxious side most of life, my bothersome anxiety has steadily increased since my mid-twenties - some periods being worse than others.

It’s not a complete surprise that my mental health has taken a dip during my first full gloomy Seattle winter — in the height of a pandemic.

Here are some ways I have been nurturing my body & mind as I work with a team of practitioners to work on understanding the **root causes** of my panic, and to live with more ease.

» no coffee (not even decaf)

» meditating regularly - I’m using @insighttimer

» gentle movement

» weekly therapy sessions

» attempting cold showers (this is hard for me!): if you’re interested, you can research how this impacts the nervous system

» working with a naturopathic doctor to focus on gut + hormone health

» trying a new Rx - a decision that took years of consideration

» lastly, opening myself up to vulnerable conversations/sharing my story and my experiences in efforts to reduce any shame and connect with others

I am not my anxiety.

Leavenworth, WA • Where To Eat🍴 I was expect Leavenworth, WA • Where To Eat🍴

I was expecting all things beer, brats and pretzels in Leavenworth (not really my jam) 🍺🥨🧀, and while there’s plenty of it, I was delighted to find plenty of delicious eats for my “foodie” taste.

We went to all of these 3 places more than once during our quick stay - highly recommend!

☕️ @argonautespressobar: Located at one end of Front Street, this adorable coffee bar has delicious espresso drinks, breakfast items, and the best view!

🥐 @tumwaterbakery: Incredible pastries, avocado toast on artisanal bread that’s a feast for your eyes... and I’m eager to go back and try their wood-fired pizza!

🍜 @yodelinbroth: Literally some of the best food I’ve had (ever!), and that’s saying a lot. I had the Yodelin soup with housemade wild PNW halibut bone coconut curry broth, udon noodles, heaps of veggies and wild salmon - it was nourishing to my core as we ate it outside in 30 degree weather. I even bought some of the broth to recreate this meal at home, yum!

winter wonderland getaway ✔️ We had snow much winter wonderland getaway ✔️

We had snow much fun exploring the picturesque Bavarian town of Leavenworth, WA for a much-needed mid-week getaway to the mountains. 🏔

We stayed in a cozy little cabin @logecamps right on the Wenatchee River (one day I’ll be back to stay at the stunning @phleavenworth), played in Enchantment Park, took a drive to Lake Wenatchee, and discovered some of the best food downtown (I’m saving my food recs for another post).

Nestled between the snow-capped Cascade Mountains with the river running through town, it’s quite magical in the middle of winter. ❄️ I’m already dreaming of heading back for some summer adventures!
