Tour de Trinidad

July 16, 2010 by Hillary 12 Comments

I went on another beautiful bike ride with my dad today. It was a step up from our previous ride. We rode to the quaint, coastal town of Trinidad. It was a foggy Friday morning here on the North Coast, which meant for a cool ride. The sky wasn’t that gorgeous blue that it was last time around, but instead, its typical whitish-grey.

After climbing the hills to Trinidad for its spectacular view of the waves, we were greeted by this:

005

The thick, perspiring fog was smothering the ocean, and it didn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon. No whale watching today. We strapped up our helmets again and off we went…

Tour de Trinidad

  • Distance: 33.2 miles
  • Time: 2:41:28
  • Average Speed: 12.3mph
  • Top Speed: 23.5mph

Pre-ride fuel.

001

  • 2/3 c. Nature’s Path Oaty Bites
  • 1/3 c. Nature’s Path Agave Plus Granola
  • 2/3 c. Humboldt Creamery 0% Milk
  • 1/3 c. of our neighbor’s a-mazing blueberries
  • 1/2 banana

I’ve been on a cold cereal kick. Must be this incredibly hot summer weather, hah! ; )

Post-ride fuel.

022

PB & [raspberry] J on organic sprouted wheat flax bread + 1 juicy peach… then there was an apricot and another half of banana. CARBS!

Dinner. I think my Humboldt sushi craving is officially cured.

032

Mango + cilantro in sushi… who would’ve thought!?

Marathon Training Plan post tomorrow!!

Hope you’ve had a relaxing Friday night : )

Question of the Day:

Do you like bike riding? My heart belongs to running, but I have certainly been enjoying giving my body a ‘rest’ with these refreshing rides.

Are you watching the Tour de France? The TV is turned on at the crack of dawn in this household for the month of July just to follow the yellow jersey. My dad owns a bike shop. Enough said.

I’ve never been a biker, simply because I don’t own a bike! There are also pure hills where I live, so I wouldn’t be going anywhere fast haha.

All the biking I have done has been on a mountain bike. I really want to see what a road bike feels like though. My husband and I really enjoy it as an activity together. I haven’t been watching the Tour de France this year!

Ah, I LOVE bike riding! It is such a nice way to really enjoy the scenery, or even my iPod :)

And is that bread by Alvarado Street? I just did a review of their sprouted flaxseed bread – it was pretty good! I actually had a PB&J on it the other day, it “soaked up” the jelly perfectly! :)

And I’ve been on a total cold cereal thing too. I wake up and I want crunchy and cold, and what better than a big bowl of cereal? My new fav is Peanut Butter Bumpers with fresh strawberries and almond milk. yummmm!

Mango + cilantro brown rice sushi? I want, I covet! I am a mango FIEND, and I love sushi, but it can be hard to find brown rice wrapped varieties!

I have never gotten into biking, partially because it scares me and partially because I’m not very good at it.
It is definitely something I want to work on though!

oooh I LOVE bike riding!! And I LOVE the Tour de France. The only problem is that coverage in Australia does not start until 10pm, so there have been many late nights for me lately!!

Wow! That’s a great ride! I haven’t ridden a bike for a long time! I think I could get into it if I started again!

- moved clear across the country to a new state for the second time
- hopped from one AirBNB to the next for 6 weeks while looking for a house to call home
- made new friends, virtually & IRL
- binge watched more TV shows than I can recall
- leveled up as an entrepreneur: hitting milestones with my virtual assistant and @beautycounter businesses
- voted for a new president
- ascended new trails and explored alpine lakes of the Pacific Northwest

This challenging year was all about appreciating the little things while living through some really BIG things. 2020 had more than a few lessons to teach us all. Through a pandemic, pivotal change in presidency, and loud cry for human rights, I see very clearly how privileged I am. It was the year to let go of plans and lean in to a new perspective.

After all, hindsight is ②⓪②⓪.

Best thing about 2020... for me, it’s been relationships - virtual and IRL.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
One of the goals that I set for 2020 was to make one new local friend in Seattle (seriously something I wrote down as I began the new year moving across the country). While I’m happy to say that I did so (during a pandemic), I feel fortunate for the virtual friendships that developed, too.⁣⁣

I’ve gotta take a second to give a shoutout to my newest soul sista @weeksofwonder. You helped me get after it during my second year of entrepreneurship with a hefty dose of #2020 mayhem. 🙏🏼⁣⁣

Wendy and I met here on IG, and what started as a business relationship and accountability partner has turned into a special bond that transcends any walkie-talkie or social media app. This creative spirit has not only inspired me to get after it and dream bigger as an entrepreneur, but in the same way has encouraged me to honor rest and play: whether it’s giving each other kudos on Strava for tackling a run, building badass business plans and packages, or simply holding space to share the wins and the many woes, personally and professionally, of a memorable year. Having Wendy in my corner has led to some serious momentum and a sense of consistent community.⁣⁣
