It’s short and sweet…

August 25, 2010 by Hillary 15 Comments

…just like Larabar ingredient lists.

I used to turn my nose up at Larabars; I didn’t think I was a huge fan of dates. I clearly don’t know my taste buds too well because both flavors I’ve had were quite yumalicious.

I ate this mini bar for a lunchtime dessert. This dense square that can easily fit in the palm of my hand packs 130 calories and 8 g of [healthy] fat. I savored every mini bite.

I’m grocering tomorrow. What flavors are your fav? I like to date around : )

Workout
  • 1 mi. indoor track run @ 8:42
  • 20-minute spin [6.7 mi.]
  • 60-minute WRECPump!

I was so so so so excited to see WRECPump on this semester’s group fitness schedule. I am always envious when y’all talk about your BodyPump classes; I had a really good feeling it would be my cup of tea. My gym jumped on the bandwagon and now offers a class twice a week, just by a different name. My new roommate and I did it together tonight, and we loved it! I’m positive I’ll have some sore muscles to stretch out in the morning.

I apologize for the lame post, but my day wasn’t a bucketful postful of excitement. Today’s goal was to avoid melting in the 104*F weather. I can’t say I succeeded. Dripping.all.day.long.

Thankfully tomorrow’s Thursday. I didn’t suspect Week 1 to be so stressful.

Be well,

Hillary

I am actually not super crazy about Larabars. Maybe I will date around later?

The new peanut butter chocolate chip bar is pretty incredible. Otherwise, I love the cherry pie. It has huge chunks of dried cherries so you can’t notice the texture of dates at all. Hope you’re surviving the first week back!

I’ve never actually eaten dates so I don’t even know if I’d like them. I’ve only had a few flavors of Larabars (the small size = amazing! perfect snack portion), and I LOVED the apple pie flavor!

I’ve never tried a Larabar, but I know they run rampant in the blog world. Maybe one day I’ll try one out :)

I love the Apple Pie, Cherry Pie, Peanut Butter & Jelly and Cinnamon Roll. PB Cookie is also a favorite. Billy loves Banana Bread. I haven’t had the new flavors, but I’m sure you’ve been reading about those on Twitter + blogs. :)

I’m a recently converted Larabar fan, too! It wasn’t until I appreciated (and search for) SHORT ingredient lists and more natural foods that I thought “WOW, these are good”. My faves (so far) are the Pecan Pie & PB Cookie! In my pantry right now, Cookie Dough & Cashew Cookie. SO exited about that. ;)

I am a HUGE Larabar fan haha… I love: apple pie, cashew cookie, banana bread, lemon bar, tropical fuir tart, carrot cake, and cookie dough. Haha, so a lot of them. :) :) :)

I am about to commit healthy blog blasmphemy…but I don’t really like Larabars. I know horrible, right!? They are just too calorie-dense for me and not that filling.

I have only tried two flavors of Larabars: Banana Bread and PB&J. I would buy both again, but the PB&J was my fav. :-)

I’m starting to love the Larabars as well. I appreciate the ingredient list and that makes me like them even more. Although, I still believe that the best way to eat a date is wrapped in bacon. :)

I am not a fan of Larabars and bought a 5pk my first time, so there are still 4 untouched bars in my cupboard. I might have to donate them to a friend I think…

I love the taste of Larabars, but they are very calorie-dense. Although I’m not afraid of calories, do like to get a bit more bang for my bite (and buck… they’re pricey, too!)

“Anxiety is a symptom, not a diagnosis.” - Dr. “Anxiety is a symptom, not a diagnosis.” - Dr. George Papanicolaou

It’s no secret that I suffer from chronic anxiety and panic attacks. Or at least I don’t intend it to be. Because while there can be a lot of shame and embarrassment around both of these, I know I’m not alone in my experiences. While I’ve leaned toward the more anxious side most of life, my bothersome anxiety has steadily increased since my mid-twenties - some periods being worse than others.

It’s not a complete surprise that my mental health has taken a dip during my first full gloomy Seattle winter — in the height of a pandemic.

Here are some ways I have been nurturing my body & mind as I work with a team of practitioners to work on understanding the **root causes** of my panic, and to live with more ease.

» no coffee (not even decaf)

» meditating regularly - I’m using @insighttimer

» gentle movement

» weekly therapy sessions

» attempting cold showers (this is hard for me!): if you’re interested, you can research how this impacts the nervous system

» working with a naturopathic doctor to focus on gut + hormone health

» trying a new Rx - a decision that took years of consideration

» lastly, opening myself up to vulnerable conversations/sharing my story and my experiences in efforts to reduce any shame and connect with others

I am not my anxiety.

Leavenworth, WA • Where To Eat🍴 I was expect Leavenworth, WA • Where To Eat🍴

I was expecting all things beer, brats and pretzels in Leavenworth (not really my jam) 🍺🥨🧀, and while there’s plenty of it, I was delighted to find plenty of delicious eats for my “foodie” taste.

We went to all of these 3 places more than once during our quick stay - highly recommend!

☕️ @argonautespressobar: Located at one end of Front Street, this adorable coffee bar has delicious espresso drinks, breakfast items, and the best view!

🥐 @tumwaterbakery: Incredible pastries, avocado toast on artisanal bread that’s a feast for your eyes... and I’m eager to go back and try their wood-fired pizza!

🍜 @yodelinbroth: Literally some of the best food I’ve had (ever!), and that’s saying a lot. I had the Yodelin soup with housemade wild PNW halibut bone coconut curry broth, udon noodles, heaps of veggies and wild salmon - it was nourishing to my core as we ate it outside in 30 degree weather. I even bought some of the broth to recreate this meal at home, yum!

winter wonderland getaway ✔️ We had snow much winter wonderland getaway ✔️

We had snow much fun exploring the picturesque Bavarian town of Leavenworth, WA for a much-needed mid-week getaway to the mountains. 🏔

We stayed in a cozy little cabin @logecamps right on the Wenatchee River (one day I’ll be back to stay at the stunning @phleavenworth), played in Enchantment Park, took a drive to Lake Wenatchee, and discovered some of the best food downtown (I’m saving my food recs for another post).

Nestled between the snow-capped Cascade Mountains with the river running through town, it’s quite magical in the middle of winter. ❄️ I’m already dreaming of heading back for some summer adventures!
