Berry Lame

August 27, 2010 by Hillary 10 Comments

Can you hear my cheering? It’s the weekend – woot woot!! When you’re a full-time student, you quickly appreciate the weekends so much more, that’s for certain. Monday feels like forever ago. I hope that’s not an indication of how slowly the semester will progress. I just keep thinking of that diploma hanging on my wall, and I chug right along.

My mind hasn’t exactly been in blog posting mode this week. I took a pathetic number of random food photos yesterday + today. Perhaps I’ll put my camera to better use over the weekend, ya?

002

#1 snack: free Greek [Chobani loves to send me coupons!!] + fresh berries & honey.

011

#1 free chocolate bar: Coffee Bean Dark Chocolate Attune. These get a high rating from me, a complete chocolate snob. Agree!?

012

Healthier chocolate. I’ll make room in my cupboard for you.

019

#1 six-minute salad: fresh spinach, r-berries, red onion, avocado, chevre, olive oil, balsamic + pepper.

I went to the gym for the 7th day in a row tonight. I didn’t go with much enthusiasm, or use my successful exercise tips; consequently, I had a chill – though sweaty!! – workout.

  • 1 mi. indoor track run @ 8:40
  • 20-minute treadmill walk
  • 20-minute StairMaster

The weather isn’t suppose to be at sauna temperatures the next couple of days, so I’m double-crossing my fingers I can go for a run outside. A true runner can only train inside for so long before going stir-crazy.

I’ll talk write more later. I’m closing up shop for the night.

When do you prefer to exercise – morning, afternoon, or evening? Any late-night exercisers?

During the semester, I have to fit workouts in whenever I can – early morning/ late at night! I get them done!

In college, I used to hit the gym at 9 or 9:30pm. Now that I’m out of the college era and am in bed by 11pm, I try to work out right after work, before dinner, around 6 or 7 pm. I REALLY wish I could be an early am exerciser, but I’ve tried and it just ain’t happening :)

Man, I feel so proud of myself when I have a workout like that!

I like to work out in the morning, but since I already get up at 5:30 to work, that hardly ever happens unless it’s an off day. Even then, I don’t get the same energy at the gym working out with the retirees as I do with the young people that are there in the evening.

How do you get Chobani coupons sent to you? I LOVE Greek yogurt, but it’s so expensive that I never buy it!

I have to agree… having the gym filled with young people gives me a different energy : )

During the summer I can pretty much exercise whenever, but once school starts Monday I’ll be fitting in my workouts in the morning before class. That way I have one less thing to do after class and I can focus on the inevitable pile of homework :)

I like exercising in the late afternoon or evening the best. It makes me feel like I’ve burned off a lot of the calories I had eaten during the day, and it leaves me feeling hungry for dinner. And then that way I don’t feel guilty about the food that I eat for dinner, hehe!

I usually prefer to exercise in the morning because it starts my day off giving me a rush of energy :) However, I start classes again on Monday, so I may have to convert to afternoons or evenings. I usually feel kind of drained if I miss a morning workout, so I am hoping I can adjust to the change!

I LOVE free stuff. I actually just went to a huge festival at my (old) college where the entire point is to get tons of free stuff, and wrote a giant blog post about it.

I prefer to exercise in the morning, but when I’m working, I usually have to settle for 6-7PM.

I exercise whenever I get that urge, but I prefer in the morning!

- moved clear across the country to a new state for the second time
- hopped from one AirBNB to the next for 6 weeks while looking for a house to call home
- made new friends, virtually & IRL
- binge watched more TV shows than I can recall
- leveled up as an entrepreneur: hitting milestones with my virtual assistant and @beautycounter businesses
- voted for a new president
- ascended new trails and explored alpine lakes of the Pacific Northwest
- adapted: to Zoom holidays, takeout, and masked faces becoming the (temporary) norm

This challenging year was all about appreciating the little things while living through some really BIG things. 2020 had more than a few lessons to teach us all. Through a pandemic, pivotal change in presidency, and loud cry for human rights, I see very clearly how privileged I am. It was the year to let go of plans and lean in to a new perspective.

After all, hindsight is ②⓪②⓪.

Best thing about 2020... for me, it’s been relationships - virtual and IRL.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
One of the goals that I set for 2020 was to make one new local friend in Seattle (seriously something I wrote down as I began the new year moving across the country). While I’m happy to say that I did so (during a pandemic), I feel fortunate for the virtual friendships that developed, too.⁣⁣

I’ve gotta take a second to give a shoutout to my newest soul sista @weeksofwonder. You helped me get after it during my second year of entrepreneurship with a hefty dose of #2020 mayhem. 🙏🏼⁣⁣

Wendy and I met here on IG, and what started as a business relationship and accountability partner has turned into a special bond that transcends any walkie-talkie or social media app. This creative spirit has not only inspired me to get after it and dream bigger as an entrepreneur, but in the same way has encouraged me to honor rest and play: whether it’s giving each other kudos on Strava for tackling a run, building badass business plans and packages, or simply holding space to share the wins and the many woes, personally and professionally, of a memorable year. Having Wendy in my corner has led to some serious momentum and a sense of consistent community.⁣⁣
