When Life Gives You Lemons

September 24, 2010 by Hillary 11 Comments

Summer does not want to leave.

… but that’s alright with me if it means I can still find juicy, local, organic peaches at the farmers’ market.

& then eat them with 0% Greek, pecans and unsweetened coconut. What more do you need in life?

This morning I tried my hand mouth at hot lemon water [boiling water + fresh lemons]. It’s suppose to have an array of health benefits, including acting as a body alkalizer. Believe what you please.

014

It was certainly tangy, thanks to the citric acid. My mouth puckered with every sip. However, I think I could become accustomed to its astringent taste if I give it a second or third chance. After all, I love a good cup of bitter green tea.

I’m looking forward to a relaxing, warm weekend. Though, I don’t think I’ll be making a trip to the farmers’ market in the morning, seeing as how I went last night:

Remind me when I’m being ungrateful of how lucky I am to buy fresh produce at the farmers’ market. Just thinking about it makes me ever so thankful.

I have some sweet recipes up my sleeve for the weekend. However, it doesn’t seem to be baking weather, now does it? =/

I’m cleaning the disaster of my room tonight…

Have a lovely “fall” weekend!

Hillary

Oh, goodie. I wasn’t sure if anyone gave a crap about my daily exercise routines – I was more doing it to keep a record for myself – so I’m glad you’re enjoying it :)

I am also training for my first 1/2 marathon all by myself and enjoy reading about your training plan too!!

As for the lemon water, I typically drink it a couple times a month (and have been doing so for the past 2 years) and haven’t noticed anything too different other than I might need to stay near a bathroom, if you know what I mean ;) Just make sure to brush your teeth afterwards (I read something about the acidity being bad for your teeth).

I hope you have a lovely weekend!!

I certainly am grateful for delicious summer fruit – but I’m SO ready for fall! I’ll probably change my tune in December and be desperate for sunny warm weather…!

My farmers’ market still has summer fruit also, but they are not as good as a month ago. Enjoy it while it lasts!

Those farmers’ market pictures are amazing! We definitely don’t get that sort of “loot” at the local markets that I go to!

Did you feel any better after drinking the lemon water? I don’t know much about it’s supposed effects. Would it make a difference to add a little honey or something to make the taste a little less bitter? Or are you supposed to drink it straight up for health benefits?

And I love the GU Espresso Love gel. Definitely gives you a buzz! ;)

I love reading about your half marathon workouts! We have an indoor track at my school gym, and I might start doing the warm up parts of my run on there, then the speed workout part on the treadmill.
    Have a wonderful Sunday :)

Whenever I have a lot of caffeine before my runs, I feel like I’m on steroids. I cannot wait to run my first half too!

Your pictures are fabulous and I love peaches too.

Leavenworth, WA • Where To Eat🍴 I was expect Leavenworth, WA • Where To Eat🍴

I was expecting all things beer, brats and pretzels in Leavenworth (not really my jam) 🍺🥨🧀, and while there’s plenty of it, I was delighted to find plenty of delicious eats for my “foodie” taste.

We went to all of these 3 places more than once during our quick stay - highly recommend!

☕️ @argonautespressobar: Located at one end of Front Street, this adorable coffee bar has delicious espresso drinks, breakfast items, and the best view!

🥐 @tumwaterbakery: Incredible pastries, avocado toast on artisanal bread that’s a feast for your eyes... and I’m eager to go back and try their wood-fired pizza!

🍜 @yodelinbroth: Literally some of the best food I’ve had (ever!), and that’s saying a lot. I had the Yodelin soup with housemade wild PNW halibut bone coconut curry broth, udon noodles, heaps of veggies and wild salmon - it was nourishing to my core as we ate it outside in 30 degree weather. I even bought some of the broth to recreate this meal at home, yum!

winter wonderland getaway ✔️ We had snow much winter wonderland getaway ✔️

We had snow much fun exploring the picturesque Bavarian town of Leavenworth, WA for a much-needed mid-week getaway to the mountains. 🏔

We stayed in a cozy little cabin @logecamps right on the Wenatchee River (one day I’ll be back to stay at the stunning @phleavenworth), played in Enchantment Park, took a drive to Lake Wenatchee, and discovered some of the best food downtown (I’m saving my food recs for another post).

Nestled between the snow-capped Cascade Mountains with the river running through town, it’s quite magical in the middle of winter. ❄️ I’m already dreaming of heading back for some summer adventures!
