I’ve got GOOD news.

December 15, 2010 by Hillary 12 Comments

Good morning! I’m blogging from the comfort of my feather bed once again. My stomach’s digesting my breakfast of OIAJ – which I dreamt of all night – and the house is peacefully silent as my roommates are taking final exams – ick.

Move over Waffle Wednesday, OIA[almond butter]J is a where it’s at today.

  • 1 c. water
  • 1/3 c. steel cut oats
  • 1/2 T flax + cinnamon
  • ~1 T flax almond butter
  • 1/2 T apricot preserves
  • 1/2 banana

I’m trying to ‘clean out’ my fridge before I leave Friday. I need help – come over & I’ll cook for you!

So yesterday afternoon, after taking a science studying hiatus [the lamest post title to date], I bounded out of bed with a crazy amount of energy – perfect time for a Holiday Hustle Challenge workout!

Running Tuesday

  • 1 mi. indoor track run @ 8:05
  • 30-minute treadmill run

10 minutes ea. @ 7.4, 7.6, 7.8mph – 0 incline

  • 10-minute treadmill intervals: alternate 1 minute ea. @ 7.2 & 8.2mph – 0.5 incline
  • 0.5 mi. indoor track intervals @ 4:00
  • 60 burpees + 40 jumping jacks
  • rotary torso weight machine – 40 reps @ 40lbs.
  • 2 x 1-minute planks
  • 2 x 10 push-ups

Total Mileage: 6.65 mi.

This workout left me exploding with endorphins! I came home and cleaned the kitchen from top to bottom [or maybe that was because my salad with balsamic vinegar went flying across the table.] Nonetheless, I’m really beginning to love this whole speed training thing. You see, for the longest time, I was all about distance [I still am!], but speed was never my focus. Ever since training indoors for my third half-marathon, I’ve learned to love the treadmill and anaerobic conditioning. I’ve seen definite results in my fitness and the shape of my body – sweet!

How do you feel about speed/interval training? Are you a fan?

Nutrition Nut News

After I cleaned up the gorgonzola cheese and balsamic vinegar from my computer, I checked my e.mail to find that I got an internship! Beginning in January, I’ll be working for Sierra Cascade Nutrition & Activity Consortium. I’m not sure what my exact duties and responsibilities will consist of yet, but I’ll be sure to fill you in once I know. I’m really excited about this internship. I’ve heard wonderful things about working for the program from my peers.

Time to plow through my to-do list…

Have a great day!

I haven’t done much interval or speed training yet, but I would like to when I start training for MY third half marathon! :-)

I never do speedwork! Ever. I’m hoping that tonight I can get to the gym and do it for the first time :)

- moved clear across the country to a new state for the second time
- hopped from one AirBNB to the next for 6 weeks while looking for a house to call home
- made new friends, virtually & IRL
- binge watched more TV shows than I can recall
- leveled up as an entrepreneur: hitting milestones with my virtual assistant and @beautycounter businesses
- voted for a new president
- ascended new trails and explored alpine lakes of the Pacific Northwest
- adapted: to Zoom holidays, takeout, and masked faces becoming the (temporary) norm

This challenging year was all about appreciating the little things while living through some really BIG things. 2020 had more than a few lessons to teach us all. Through a pandemic, pivotal change in presidency, and loud cry for human rights, I see very clearly how privileged I am. It was the year to let go of plans and lean in to a new perspective.

After all, hindsight is ②⓪②⓪.

Best thing about 2020... for me, it’s been relationships - virtual and IRL.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
One of the goals that I set for 2020 was to make one new local friend in Seattle (seriously something I wrote down as I began the new year moving across the country). While I’m happy to say that I did so (during a pandemic), I feel fortunate for the virtual friendships that developed, too.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I’ve gotta take a second to give a shoutout to my newest soul sista @weeksofwonder. You helped me get after it during my second year of entrepreneurship with a hefty dose of #2020 mayhem. 🙏🏼⁣⁣

Wendy and I met here on IG, and what started as a business relationship and accountability partner has turned into a special bond that transcends any walkie-talkie or social media app. This creative spirit has not only inspired me to get after it and dream bigger as an entrepreneur, but in the same way has encouraged me to honor rest and play: whether it’s giving each other kudos on Strava for tackling a run, building badass business plans and packages, or simply holding space to share the wins and the many woes, personally and professionally, of a memorable year. Having Wendy in my corner has led to some serious momentum and a sense of consistent community.⁣⁣
