adj. having the intense irrational reality of a dream
This is the word I would chose to describe my weekend, and no… not in a good, I just finished my 7th semester of college, kind of a way. Yesterday morning, I experienced a very tragic event. I was awoken at 2:00am to explosions, screams, and orange flames in the front doorway. I had crawled into bed Friday night, semi-relaxed from finishing another round of final exams and rewinding with Eat Pray Love [the movie] and a Sierra Nevada Celebration ale. Little did I know, moments later I would be considering jumping off the balcony of my friend’s second story apartment to save myself from danger.
Thankfully, the powerful sprinkler system extinguished the flames soon enough that I was able to escape the apartment through the front door, soaked to the bone. Due to the fact that I was sleeping when the accident occurred, I wasn’t wearing my contact lenses making the catastrophe that much more confusing and tragic. Alarms, sirens, sprinklers, shattered glass, police, fire engines, ambulances… unfortunately this intense irrational event was not a dream, but a reality.
I do not feel comfortable releasing other details of the incident to respect the privacy of my three friends that were involved, but I will say that the situation is not pretty. Only one friend was severely burned and taken to San Francisco for critical care, but the damage doesn’t stop there.
After a rainy, teary six hours in the car, I made it home to the comforting Humboldt County last night; I’m trying my best to breathe in the spirit of the holidays and breathe out the intense stress headaches and vivid replays. That’s to say your Nutrition Nut will be taking it easy for a while…
Hope you find yourself safe and sound this season,
