girl meets [real] work.

January 3, 2011 by Hillary 16 Comments

Happy Monday, friends!

Here’s the deal… I was going to finally write my follow-up post on my serious sugar struggle, but I decided to wait until after I talk to my doctor tomorrow about my recent blood tests. I know some of you are wondering what my plan is, so I promise we’ll chat about sugar tomorrow! Thank you for your patience.

On another note, I actually went to work to today. What work? The caterer I work for [during the summer and holiday seasons] called me last minute to work an event today; I don’t turn any job down these days! After kitchen work, I came home and sat down at my computer with an iced latte and got going on blog work… and here we are.

Since I wasn’t able to attend DanceFit or run earlier today, my body is egging me to exercise, but my mind is arguing against =/

I still gotta come up with something to eat for dinner tonight, and then it’s the season premier of The Bachelor! <3 It’s been so long since I’ve watched any TV that I don’t even know who the bachelor is.

Have a great night,

xo HP

What kind of event did you work?

I really need to get into exercising. I ran yesterday, but my motivation just left me today.

    Have a great week!

Oh, my body is egging me to exercise too! I’ll probably walk/jog on the treadmill while catching up on shows! Two birds, one stone. :)

Good thinking! Unfortunately, our treadmill is in the garage and it’s cold out there this time of night! You can call me a couch potato tonight ;)

My mind is always telling me not to exercise! It’s the biggest obstacle to my workouts. I’m learning to quiet that voice :)

Hi Hillary, what type of steel cut oats do you use? I’ve never tried them before, but I’ve been reading some of your posts and they look really good!

I buy Trader Joe’s Quick Cook Steel Cut Oats. Regular steel cut oats take a really long time to cook (supposedly), and I just don’t have the patience to wait 20-30 minutes for my oatmeal ;)

I am eager to read the sugar post. I know I consume way too much of the stuff and I think a little detox might do me some good.

I’m avoiding The Bachelor. The last Bachelorette was the first one I got into and I’m resisting this one so far, but getting sucked in is probably inevitable.

My hubby and I are doing a bit of a sugar detox for 21 days. It’s amazing to see all the things sugar is in. No wonder we eat way too much sugar in our daily lives. The food industry seems to think that sugar and salt are needed in everything in order to give flavor to food. Sad.

I laid it all out here: http://itsagoodmorning.wordpress.com/2010/12/30/sugar-detox/

We’re basically cutting out foods that even contain sugar, such as bread, peanut butter, ketchup. I am not cutting out fruit though because I feel that it is too essential to a healthy diet. My hubby is still having juice but only if it is 100% juice. I am not drinking juice, but I am making smoothies with frozen fruit with no added sugar. One way I am sorta fudging is with a tiny bit of agave nectar in a few things, but not enough to actually make it taste sweet.

I tried your oatmeal recipe the other day with chia, flax, and I used almond butter and it is SO delicious! Thank you!

I’m assuming it’s a good thing I never really got into “The Bachelor” series…I think being hooked on TBL and Wednesday night comedies is enough for now… ;)

Leavenworth, WA • Where To Eat🍴 I was expect Leavenworth, WA • Where To Eat🍴

I was expecting all things beer, brats and pretzels in Leavenworth (not really my jam) 🍺🥨🧀, and while there’s plenty of it, I was delighted to find plenty of delicious eats for my “foodie” taste.

We went to all of these 3 places more than once during our quick stay - highly recommend!

☕️ @argonautespressobar: Located at one end of Front Street, this adorable coffee bar has delicious espresso drinks, breakfast items, and the best view!

🥐 @tumwaterbakery: Incredible pastries, avocado toast on artisanal bread that’s a feast for your eyes... and I’m eager to go back and try their wood-fired pizza!

🍜 @yodelinbroth: Literally some of the best food I’ve had (ever!), and that’s saying a lot. I had the Yodelin soup with housemade wild PNW halibut bone coconut curry broth, udon noodles, heaps of veggies and wild salmon - it was nourishing to my core as we ate it outside in 30 degree weather. I even bought some of the broth to recreate this meal at home, yum!

winter wonderland getaway ✔️ We had snow much winter wonderland getaway ✔️

We had snow much fun exploring the picturesque Bavarian town of Leavenworth, WA for a much-needed mid-week getaway to the mountains. 🏔

We stayed in a cozy little cabin @logecamps right on the Wenatchee River (one day I’ll be back to stay at the stunning @phleavenworth), played in Enchantment Park, took a drive to Lake Wenatchee, and discovered some of the best food downtown (I’m saving my food recs for another post).

Nestled between the snow-capped Cascade Mountains with the river running through town, it’s quite magical in the middle of winter. ❄️ I’m already dreaming of heading back for some summer adventures!
