Don’t miss my weekend Barney Butter GIVEAWAY: 24 snack packets are up for grabs – yummm!

Howdy!

Happy Saturday night. Anything exciting planned? I’m wearing my favorite faded ex-college sweats and am laying low. I’ve been feeling under the weather lately; between all the packing, driving, errands, and unpacking, I’m pooped.

Anyway, today one of my errands included going to Fleet Feet to possibly buy a new pair of running shoes. Since I’ve had some knee pain lately, and just started training for half marathon #4, I think I am due for a new pair.

My typical rule of thumb for buying new running shoes is roughly every 500 miles or 6 months.

I’ve been sporting Asics for several years [since my first season of cross country in ‘05]. I’ve been very pleased with them all around; however, as I runner, I’m always eyeing others’ fancy schmancy athletic footwear. Today I tried on a few other brands at the store to see if something else was comparable to what I’m used to. No luck. The girl helping me confirmed that I’m running in the right shoe. I think I’m an Asics 2100 model for life ;)

Running Shoes 1

Asics 2130: I think these are my favorite color of them all. I’ve had 2 pairs; though, both of which are retired/trashed.

Asics 2140: these are on their very last miles – so sad.

14

Asics 2150: I’ve had these pretty pink ladies since July [see My Running Shoe Relationship], and they ran with me all throughout my NWM training.

The Asics 2160’s are now out, but I’m not a fan of any of the colors =/ I’m leaning towards a second pair of the 50’s. I’ve never been a fan of purple… what’s your opinion?

Boring and ugly or cute and simple?

I’m going to go finish unpacking my life, maybe read a few pages, sip tea… a.k.a. be the old grandma in me.

Night,

Hill

You are very lucky to have found your running shoe, I am still working on it. I have to say, though, that I LOVE the purple 2150’s in the picture. I might have to stop by my local running store and see if they have any. Good luck with your pick.

Purple is my FAVORITE running shoe color. Sadly, my purple Asics (gel kayano) have long retired to “elliptical-only” status :(. They were more silvery+grey+purple though.

I am due for new shoes too. I want someone to examine my running before I buy another pair. I think my current ones are messing with my minor injuries.

I really like the purple! Definitely cute and simple. I run in Brooks. I used to use Mizuno’s, but the lady during my most recent trip told me to get Brooks. I loved the Mizuno’s because they were so light…I miss them :(

How many miles did you put on your old Asics before you started getting knee trouble? Just wondering because I have about 400 miles on mine and am starting to get knee pains. I’m not sure if I’m just thinking that because I know that you are suppose to get new shoes every 300-500 miles, lol.

Enjoy your “grandma evening”! I’m doing the exact same thing and it’s amazing!!

I actually like Asics quite a lot. I might be partial because I’ve been wearing them for something like 5 years as well. I am currently running in the Gel Kayanos 16 in that same purple color combination. I had never had purple shoes before but they grew on me. And I rotate them with the Gel Kayanos 15 in red. Because if it ain’t broken, don’t change it! ;-)

Mizunos are the only shoe I run in or else I will get injured. Who cares what a shoe looks like as long as it’s getting the job done and keeping you injury free right? :)

By the way, I am loving the purple!

I love the color purple — although I don’t think I’d like it for running shoes. Pink is more my style!

I run in New Balance right now, although I’ll be looking for a new brand pretty soon. It’s not that I don’t like them — I just don’t love them. I’m def. due for a new pair though!

Hope you enjoyed your night! I spent mine playing games on the computer with my son and my Mom — so I was embracing my inner grandma too. ;)

I have run in those same shoes for 7 years! Too funny – I also got two pair of those 2130s! I loved them. In October I purchased Brooks Ghost 2. They’re great too so far. It’s the only shoe I like equally as well.

I usually run in the Nike Pegasus, but I need new shoes too. I like the pink or blue ones way better than the purple ones. This time, I want to go to a specialty running store & get their recommendations based on how I run or even try Vibrams.

I run in Brooks Launch, and yesterday I decided to opt for the neon yellow variety! I am so excited for them to arrive!

I am so clueless when it comes to running shoes. I’ve only been running for a little under a year, so I’ve only had to change shoes twice and I just ask the salesperson what is best for me and then I just keep buying that shoe. It’s worked fine for me so far. :]

I follow the same rule with changing my running shoes. I only wear Asics. I just retired my 2150s in November and moved to the 2160s. I got the blue ones because the purple ones didn’t thrill me either. I really like the blue ones, though. They have cute flowers and swirls on the inside!

Too funny – I’ve been in Asics since high school and also kept upgrading (from 2100 to 2150). Haven’t tried the 60’s yet. This line really works for me; I don’t think I’ll switch unless I have problems. I once tried the Asics Gel Kayanos (sp?) because they were supposed to be “better”, but they killed my knees. I guess I’ve bred my body to run in the 21’s!

I’ve been a dedicated Asiscs wearer for many years…until my last shoe shopping trip! I tried on a bunch of different pairs and a pair of Mizunos fit my foot and my gait the best. The owner of the running store said our feet change…especially as runners!

I think that the purple is cute! I have sadly given up all control of what running shoes look like to the people who I trust at my running store who fit me! I currently am rocking a pair of shoes that I think are an awful orange color, but always get compliments on! :)

I love Asics – they’re honestly the best running shoe I’ve tried out and I’ve been all over the board for brand names. I’m on my third pair now and I think I’m in the same boat – asics fo’ lyfe, yo.
I’m digging the purple ones because those happen to be what I’m lacing up every day myself!

“Anxiety is a symptom, not a diagnosis.” - Dr. “Anxiety is a symptom, not a diagnosis.” - Dr. George Papanicolaou

It’s no secret that I suffer from chronic anxiety and panic attacks. Or at least I don’t intend it to be. Because while there can be a lot of shame and embarrassment around both of these, I know I’m not alone in my experiences. While I’ve leaned toward the more anxious side most of life, my bothersome anxiety has steadily increased since my mid-twenties - some periods being worse than others.

It’s not a complete surprise that my mental health has taken a dip during my first full gloomy Seattle winter — in the height of a pandemic.

Here are some ways I have been nurturing my body & mind as I work with a team of practitioners to work on understanding the **root causes** of my panic, and to live with more ease.

» no coffee (not even decaf)

» meditating regularly - I’m using @insighttimer

» gentle movement

» weekly therapy sessions

» attempting cold showers (this is hard for me!): if you’re interested, you can research how this impacts the nervous system

» working with a naturopathic doctor to focus on gut + hormone health

» trying a new Rx - a decision that took years of consideration

» lastly, opening myself up to vulnerable conversations/sharing my story and my experiences in efforts to reduce any shame and connect with others

I am not my anxiety.

I was expecting all things beer, brats and pretzels in Leavenworth (not really my jam) 🍺🥨🧀, and while there’s plenty of it, I was delighted to find plenty of delicious eats for my “foodie” taste.

We went to all of these 3 places more than once during our quick stay - highly recommend!

☕️ @argonautespressobar: Located at one end of Front Street, this adorable coffee bar has delicious espresso drinks, breakfast items, and the best view!

🥐 @tumwaterbakery: Incredible pastries, avocado toast on artisanal bread that’s a feast for your eyes... and I’m eager to go back and try their wood-fired pizza!

🍜 @yodelinbroth: Literally some of the best food I’ve had (ever!), and that’s saying a lot. I had the Yodelin soup with housemade wild PNW halibut bone coconut curry broth, udon noodles, heaps of veggies and wild salmon - it was nourishing to my core as we ate it outside in 30 degree weather. I even bought some of the broth to recreate this meal at home, yum!

We had snow much fun exploring the picturesque Bavarian town of Leavenworth, WA for a much-needed mid-week getaway to the mountains. 🏔

We stayed in a cozy little cabin @logecamps right on the Wenatchee River (one day I’ll be back to stay at the stunning @phleavenworth), played in Enchantment Park, took a drive to Lake Wenatchee, and discovered some of the best food downtown (I’m saving my food recs for another post).

Nestled between the snow-capped Cascade Mountains with the river running through town, it’s quite magical in the middle of winter. ❄️ I’m already dreaming of heading back for some summer adventures!
