Oh, hello!
Today I practiced my inner Skinny Runner… taking photos of myself that is, not the speedy running. I’m not rocking any SR tan either, but I am rockin’ my newest favorite additions to my wardrobe – my Nike Frees and Champion empire top.
This was the outfit that I wore to my first-ever kettlebell class. I’ve been wanting to try kettlebells for a while – as they seem to be the newest craze in workout world – and tonight was my last chance to try the class at my gym for free. How’d it go? Well, I can barely put one foot in front of the other right now without cramping up. The only bells available by the time I got to the class were 18lbs. – uh oh! I ended up using 10lb. dumbbells for a lot of the exercises and still felt the burn. I haven’t decided yet if I want to pay money to put myself in that much pain twice a week ;)
After class, I tried to “run it out” for a mile around the indoor track, but had little luck. I hopped on the elliptical for another mile, but my legs still feel like solid cement. I gave the foam roller a shot last. I hope I can get out of bed in the morning!
What new fitness activity/equipment have you discovered recently?

Just wanted to put in out there that I’ve been dealing with a bit of writer’s blogger’s block; but because quality over quantity is more of value to me for NN on the Run, the posting around here may be shy of routine. I still have a couple recipes I want to share soon, and will keep ya’ll updated with my training, interning, and college life: semester eight.
I’ve got it all organized with Google Calendar :)

LOVE it, and I’m pretty sure I have these shoes too! Haha, black with hot pink inside! Love them girl :)
I love kettlebells but I wish our gym offered classes. I think I need to look into getting some there.
Love the shirt, and I also dig the Frees. I almost bought a pair last time, but I was worried that there wasn’t enough stability. Let me know how they work out on long runs for you. I was curious.
Hope you are having a great week!
I definitely will not be taking my Frees on any long runs. The lady at Fleet Feet recommended 2 miles top. They’re my ‘gym rat’ shoes; I need much more support for long distance running :)
So I haven’t discovered it yet — but last night I signed up for “aquatic yoga” at my college!
Next Wed. is training and then we start the week after that for 4 weeks!
Sounds like a great class – I’ve been wanting to start kettlebells since the summer! I’m such a procrastinator…
I have never tried kettleballs – I’m a little late on the bandwagon, but I just recently joined a hot yoga class. In love!
The kettlebell is something I need to try. I hear such great things about it. I usually just use my own body weight for fitness moves – planks, pushups, dips, those types of things! Maybe I should invest in the kettlebell – is it worth it?
I really want to try the Frees! I’m thinking I may buy the pink ones :) I’ve never tried kettle balls, but they have them at my gym – I’ve heard they make for an awesome workout. Good luck with the start of your semester!
Google calendar is where it’s at! I’ve heard about Nike Frees…have you been running in them too?
I’ve run in them a little (indoors, a couple miles). I will definitely not be taking them on long runs, as I need much more support than they offer. They are the most comfortable shoes in the world though. Think water shoe meets athletic shoe :)
Love the black Frees! I have a mostly white pair, but the black look sweet. I’m waiting for the New Balance Minimus to come out in March and if I don’t like those, I’m sticking with the Frees and may have to go find a pair of those black ones!
The studio I teach yoga at also has kettlebells. I keep meaning to try them out…guess I’ll be sure to take it easy the first time!
I love those shoes! SO CUTE :)
I’ve seen the Nike Frees and I’ve been a little hesitant. They seem so flimsy. Maybe I’ll have to actually try them on next time I’m in the running shoe store. Love the top!
I love the tank and the shoes! I feel you on trying to balance everything out. I just started my last semester of college and already I feel like things are piling up! We’ll keep each other in check ;)
Good luck, girlie! You’re almost done!
I’ve been dying to try kettlebells!!! Just haven’t had the chance yet, and I LOVE the top! :)

Good for you for being so organized!! I have been struggling with the quantity over quality thing myself. It is very hard to balance blog, school, work, and life! <3
dang, you got it all organized! you deserve some nice readin’!
Cute workout top. I really don’t have any cute workout clothes, but I would love to get some. Maybe it would motivate me more. I’m impressed with your schedule, definitely something I should be doing. Balancing school, work, life, and blogging is difficult.
Hi, I’ve been following your blog for a while now and just wanted to help with your sugar posts. I hope you are truly doing better. As a fellow runner and RD-to-be, that RUNNERS (we exert tremendous amount of energy) get more cravings than non-runners. Our body naturally gets depleted of energy stores and DEMANDS quick recovery of glucose in which simple sugars are the quickest way. Thus, dessert contains lots of these and sometimes, we physiologically can’t help it! Plus, the fact that it’s the winter season and we naturally want to be insulated. I will be doing a post on scientific and non-scientific explanations of sugar cravings so please come check out my blog. Also, I have a serious question. We got hit with a blizzard in NY and tomorrow is suppose to be 11F. I have my Manhattan half-marathon tomorrow and debating. Would YOU if you were in my shoes? I need help! Please visit http://www.real-nutrition-nyc.com for suggestions! Thanks…have a great weekend.
I’ve actually just started running. And I LOVE it! I was so excited to buy my first pair of running shoes this week. I wanted to get like 5 pair! I’m addicted!
I love that top! (and your blog…just found it today.)
Oh man, kettlebell sounds painful!! Hopefully you won’t be too sore tomorrow!
I LOVE your top! I’m always looking for adorable workout clothes since I practically live in them ;)
I’ve recently discovered ballast balls, which are exercise balls filled with sand. The sand not only adds some resistance but also keeps the ball stationary. This way you can jump over them and they stay put. They’re also awesome for upper body work!
Be careful with the KBs. It’s really easy to hurt yourself if you use improper technique. It’s about protecting your joints and of course keeping your tummy and your butt tight while doing the moves and you’ll be surprised at how much you can do! Turkish Getups are my FAVORITE because they are a slow, intense whole body routine from flow to standing and back down again. Snatches are my least favorite, but once I got the little snap just before it reaches the top where I pup the handle forward a little it stopped tearing up my hands. I love it, it’s an amazing workout and the best thing for getting over the soreness is going back. I dropped almost 20 minutes off my marathon time by increasing my core strength with kettlebells. I go to KOR fitness (www.jointhekor.com) here in Chico and KC, Robin and Lisa are excellent instructors.
Cute workout outfit! I love cute workout clothes…it’s a weird addiction! :) Your kettlebell class sounds challenging for sure! And…Google Calendar is the only way that I can stay sane! It works like a dream!
