twenty things {about me}.

January 3, 2012 by Hillary 16 Comments

    1. I’ve never been on a roller coaster. Have I lived!?
    2. I detested mushrooms for the longest time. This aversion is no longer.
    3. I separate my laundry by darks, lights/whites + pinks.
    4. I have an instinctual craving for peanut butter + bananas most mornings.
    5. I left cookies + milk for Santa (and carrots for the reindeer!) well into my high school years – I’m a creature of habit freak of tradition!
    6. Body ink isn’t my style.
    7. I haven’t a clue what I’m doing after May 20, 2012.
    8. That said, I figured out my life plan last night in less than 10 minutes.
    9. I have an entire kitchen drawer designated for tea.
    10. I pay a lot of money for cable TV, of which I do not watch.
    11. Current culinary obsession: ginger.
    12. I’d much prefer to consume cold cereal at 10pm than 8am.
    13. Volunteering with Girls on the Run is added onto my life list.
    14. I don’t use Google Reader… or know how to. I’m a hypocrite.
    15. I don’t know how I lived ran without my new running toy.
    16. I am already browsing summer swimwear. It’s the third of January.
    17. My Spotify playlists alternate between Drake, Christina Perri + Lady Antebellum.
    18. I once talked a lot. Now I don’t talk enough.
    19. My car is permanently scented of Orbit peppermint gum.
    20. I didn’t stay up ‘til midnight this NYE… I’m 22.

That’s totally like me! My teachers were always telling me to stop talking and I think they finally drove it into my head! Cute list <3
ANDDDD I didn't stay up to 12 either… I did it old lady style and had to be woken up ;)

Sooo… You should totally ride a rollercoaster! Mushrooms are awesome with salsa or sautéed… I am the worst laundry washer and I’m hoping that my Dear will eventually tell me never to do a load again and he’ll take over [haha]! I much prefer to eat cereal dry than with milk [or yogurt]. I wanted to volunteer with Girls on the Run but expressed interest after the season already started – there’s always next season! I just started using Google Reader a couple of weeks ago and think it’s absolutely awesome [totally worth doing]…

    Have a great day :D

I am so glad to hear that another 22 year old did not make it ’til midnight on New Year’s Eve. I made it to 11:15pm and called it good. I guess running 8 miles and skiing 7 hours on the same day makes you tired.

Girls on the Run is one of the best experiences I have ever had. I coached one year and now wish my schedule allowed for me to coach again. With my job, I get to do lots of shoe fittings in my area, so I am still a part of the program, but don’t get to see the faces of little girls learning how to love running and themselves on a weekly basis any more.

Glad to hear you loved your GOTR experience. Do you work at a shoe store? :)

I work at a specialty running store in Michigan called Gazelle Sports. We are a huge part of GOTR here in Michigan. It is super fun and I get to talk about running all day long.

I am the same way about cereal! It’s the best late night snack, and not enough to get me going in the morning.

I used to not like roller coasters either, but now, I love ’em!

      Hi Tami,
I think you’re right — I think that is “Mrs. Gann”, too :)
Not sure about that crazy outfit though, haha.
I wanted to run the Eugene Marathon at the end of April, but now I have something else going on, so I’m not sure. Any suggestions?

“Anxiety is a symptom, not a diagnosis.” - Dr. “Anxiety is a symptom, not a diagnosis.” - Dr. George Papanicolaou

It’s no secret that I suffer from chronic anxiety and panic attacks. Or at least I don’t intend it to be. Because while there can be a lot of shame and embarrassment around both of these, I know I’m not alone in my experiences. While I’ve leaned toward the more anxious side most of life, my bothersome anxiety has steadily increased since my mid-twenties - some periods being worse than others.

It’s not a complete surprise that my mental health has taken a dip during my first full gloomy Seattle winter — in the height of a pandemic.

Here are some ways I have been nurturing my body & mind as I work with a team of practitioners to work on understanding the **root causes** of my panic, and to live with more ease.

» no coffee (not even decaf)

» meditating regularly - I’m using @insighttimer

» gentle movement

» weekly therapy sessions

» attempting cold showers (this is hard for me!): if you’re interested, you can research how this impacts the nervous system

» working with a naturopathic doctor to focus on gut + hormone health

» trying a new Rx - a decision that took years of consideration

» lastly, opening myself up to vulnerable conversations/sharing my story and my experiences in efforts to reduce any shame and connect with others

I am not my anxiety.

Leavenworth, WA • Where To Eat🍴 I was expect Leavenworth, WA • Where To Eat🍴

I was expecting all things beer, brats and pretzels in Leavenworth (not really my jam) 🍺🥨🧀, and while there’s plenty of it, I was delighted to find plenty of delicious eats for my “foodie” taste.

We went to all of these 3 places more than once during our quick stay - highly recommend!

☕️ @argonautespressobar: Located at one end of Front Street, this adorable coffee bar has delicious espresso drinks, breakfast items, and the best view!

🥐 @tumwaterbakery: Incredible pastries, avocado toast on artisanal bread that’s a feast for your eyes... and I’m eager to go back and try their wood-fired pizza!

🍜 @yodelinbroth: Literally some of the best food I’ve had (ever!), and that’s saying a lot. I had the Yodelin soup with housemade wild PNW halibut bone coconut curry broth, udon noodles, heaps of veggies and wild salmon - it was nourishing to my core as we ate it outside in 30 degree weather. I even bought some of the broth to recreate this meal at home, yum!

winter wonderland getaway ✔️ We had snow much winter wonderland getaway ✔️

We had snow much fun exploring the picturesque Bavarian town of Leavenworth, WA for a much-needed mid-week getaway to the mountains. 🏔

We stayed in a cozy little cabin @logecamps right on the Wenatchee River (one day I’ll be back to stay at the stunning @phleavenworth), played in Enchantment Park, took a drive to Lake Wenatchee, and discovered some of the best food downtown (I’m saving my food recs for another post).

Nestled between the snow-capped Cascade Mountains with the river running through town, it’s quite magical in the middle of winter. ❄️ I’m already dreaming of heading back for some summer adventures!
