{Full Body} Kettlebell & Dumbbell Workout

June 26, 2013 by Hillary 8 Comments

Hi All – Happy Workout Wednesday!

I mentioned in my birthday eats (and treats!) post that I got a kettlebell for my birthday. Technically, it was a gift to myself, but hey, a girl can spoil herself every now and again. Now that I am without a gym membership, I’m getting more and more pumped (pun!) about building my “home gym.” I don’t have room for big, bulky equipment, but I’ve learned you don’t need much at all for an efficient workout.

Yesterday, I did a full-body kettlebell and dumbbell workout in the comfort of my modest living room after a slow 2-mile warm-up run.

KB

What You’ll Need

  • 1 kettlebell, 15-30lb.
  • 1 set of dumbbells, 8-12lb.
  • 1 yoga mat
  • music of your choice

Note: Before starting, do 5-10 minutes of light cardio to warm-up. The workout should take ~25-30 minutes to complete if you move quickly from one set to the next.

Exercises

  • Swing
  • Sumo Squat
  • Deadlift to High Pull
  • Windmill
  • Figure 8
  • Single Leg Deadlift
  • Bridge Chest Press

If you have any questions about any of the exercise moves, please ask and I’ll do my best to answer. I suppose I’ll have to create my own Speed Skater with High Pull tutorial, as I couldn’t find an adequate example.

Check out my Workouts page for more full body strength routines and treadmill fun – enjoy!

I was so happy to see this! Last weekend, I too, gifted myself with a kettlebell. I did a short workout with it on Sunday and was surprised how sore I was on Monday! Definitely a good investment. :-) I can’t wait to try this workout!

Happy belated birthday! 24? You are just a baby!! I’ll be 29 in a few months… feels like I just turned 21 yesterday.
I need to invest in a kettlebell, too. This workout looks like a great one!

I’ve never used a kettlebell before. I’m a little intimidated honestly, I’d probably smack myself in the face with one!

I was expecting all things beer, brats and pretzels in Leavenworth (not really my jam) 🍺🥨🧀, and while there’s plenty of it, I was delighted to find plenty of delicious eats for my “foodie” taste.

We went to all of these 3 places more than once during our quick stay - highly recommend!

☕️ @argonautespressobar: Located at one end of Front Street, this adorable coffee bar has delicious espresso drinks, breakfast items, and the best view!

🥐 @tumwaterbakery: Incredible pastries, avocado toast on artisanal bread that’s a feast for your eyes... and I’m eager to go back and try their wood-fired pizza!

🍜 @yodelinbroth: Literally some of the best food I’ve had (ever!), and that’s saying a lot. I had the Yodelin soup with housemade wild PNW halibut bone coconut curry broth, udon noodles, heaps of veggies and wild salmon - it was nourishing to my core as we ate it outside in 30 degree weather. I even bought some of the broth to recreate this meal at home, yum!

winter wonderland getaway ✔️ We had snow much winter wonderland getaway ✔️

We had snow much fun exploring the picturesque Bavarian town of Leavenworth, WA for a much-needed mid-week getaway to the mountains. 🏔

We stayed in a cozy little cabin @logecamps right on the Wenatchee River (one day I’ll be back to stay at the stunning @phleavenworth), played in Enchantment Park, took a drive to Lake Wenatchee, and discovered some of the best food downtown (I’m saving my food recs for another post).

Nestled between the snow-capped Cascade Mountains with the river running through town, it’s quite magical in the middle of winter. ❄️ I’m already dreaming of heading back for some summer adventures!
