Tuesday Tidbits | 8.20.13

August 20, 2013 by Hillary 14 Comments

1. August’s Tuesday Tidbits was scheduled for last week — oops. Better late than never.

2. Although this summer has been quite lovely, my feelings for Fall are beginning to rekindle. I’m nowhere near pulling out the pumpkin recipes, but I will welcome the cooler mornings and cozy clothes in due time.

3. Despite the smoky skies and humid air, I was itching to go for a run yesterday. I’ve disciplined myself to not run – in hopes of healing my injured knee – but, I broke my no running streak. I set out, anticipating frustration, and gratefully finished 2.5 (very slow and awkward) pain-free miles. {insert happy dance}

4. I’ve had my iPhone for one year, and have managed to only go through one case. Granted, it is a pretty sturdy one at that and has protected my lifeline well, but I’m ready for a change (I don’t say that too often!). So, mint sparkles, or…?

iPhone friends, tell me — where do you shop for cases? Functional or fashionable?

5. I can’t get enough of that country stuff. It’s been but a week and a half since I saw Luke Bryan in concert, and I’ve already bought tickets for The Boy(friend) and I to see Zac Brown Band. It’ll be a long wait ’til November 14 – can’t wait!

6. Saturday night involved hunting down ginger beer to mix-up a few Dark ‘N’ Stormy cocktails. I finally used up the rum in my freezer. Move over mojitos — this refreshing, summer recipe comes with a crisp, citrusy kick.

7. I was doing oh so well with keeping my cereal cravings under control; I managed to keep my cupboards sans cereal for a couple of months. I gave in last week and bought a box of Rice Chex; naturally, that meant I needed to bake a fresh batch of granola. I made a half-batch of Coconut Cashew Crunch Granola, subbing almonds for the cashews. Naturally, I had to have a late-night bowl of cereal in bed while catching up with the season finale of The Bachelorette. #guiltypleasures

8. Did you know Love Grown Foods launched a new product!? I’m completely smitten over their Super Oats. As a LOVE Blogger, I’m giddy to be able to host a giveaway soon…

9. Going home to the foggy, damp coast earlier this month was bittersweet, but bringing back Dad’s freshly picked blueberries and enjoying them on fluffy waffles was a lot sweeter.

10. I’m drooling over these Zucchini Coconut Chocolate Chippers; coincidently, I have four beautiful, bright green zucchini from the farmer’s market in my fridge.

There ya have it — Tuesday Tidbits, August Edition.

Ta ta for now!

Great job on the run! I love coming out better than anticipated on a run I haven’t taken in a while. Bad runs are so frustrating! I am certainly ready for fall and all that comes with it.

YES for pain-free miles! Did you ever get the results back from your MRI?? I would definitely choose the mint iPhone case, considering I am obsessed with mint green. And I need to make those cookies ASAP. Time to go to the farmer’s market for some zucchini!

    Yay pain-free!! That’s great news!

I have the same debate with iPhone covers constantly. I’ve had the same one for two years now; it’s boring dark purple, but such a good case that I can’t seem to justify getting a new one. LOVE that mint one though! Definitely go with that :)

Also, I’ve caught the country concert bug as well… going to another in October, I cannot wait! I saw ZBB in concert a couple years ago, they are amazing.

Ah yes, I totally crave cereal too… Post-workout, you can sometimes find me shoving Cascadian Farms Cinnamon Crunch/Kashi Go Lean! Crunch/Cheerios in my mouth while waiting for dinner to cook!

P.S. I nominated you for the Sunshine Award. Check out my blog for details. Love your blog!

I’m glad to hear your run was pain-free. I’m loving your Nike watch too; I think I’m due for a replacement.
My iPhone case is great for protection (I’ve dropped it several times), but it’s not cute at all, so I’m looking for one with a balance of both. Let us know what you end up getting!
Oh, and I’m drooling over your waffles. They look delicious!

I love my Nike+ SportWatch… well, most of the time. Sometimes it takes a while to find the GPS signal. I think it now comes in other colors, too :)

It’s one of my favorites. I made it with all coconut oil (instead of half canola oil) this time, just FYI :)

I LOVE that iPhone case – mint is one of my favourite colours, and it involves glitter – you really don’t need to look any further!

I was expecting all things beer, brats and pretzels in Leavenworth (not really my jam) 🍺🥨🧀, and while there’s plenty of it, I was delighted to find plenty of delicious eats for my “foodie” taste.

We went to all of these 3 places more than once during our quick stay - highly recommend!

☕️ @argonautespressobar: Located at one end of Front Street, this adorable coffee bar has delicious espresso drinks, breakfast items, and the best view!

🥐 @tumwaterbakery: Incredible pastries, avocado toast on artisanal bread that’s a feast for your eyes... and I’m eager to go back and try their wood-fired pizza!

🍜 @yodelinbroth: Literally some of the best food I’ve had (ever!), and that’s saying a lot. I had the Yodelin soup with housemade wild PNW halibut bone coconut curry broth, udon noodles, heaps of veggies and wild salmon - it was nourishing to my core as we ate it outside in 30 degree weather. I even bought some of the broth to recreate this meal at home, yum!

winter wonderland getaway ✔️ We had snow much winter wonderland getaway ✔️

We had snow much fun exploring the picturesque Bavarian town of Leavenworth, WA for a much-needed mid-week getaway to the mountains. 🏔

We stayed in a cozy little cabin @logecamps right on the Wenatchee River (one day I’ll be back to stay at the stunning @phleavenworth), played in Enchantment Park, took a drive to Lake Wenatchee, and discovered some of the best food downtown (I’m saving my food recs for another post).

Nestled between the snow-capped Cascade Mountains with the river running through town, it’s quite magical in the middle of winter. ❄️ I’m already dreaming of heading back for some summer adventures!
