Good morning! For today’s Workout Wednesday post, I thought it would be appropriate to share a dorm room-friendly workout since Back to School season is here.
If you’re heading off to college, don’t forget to pack a pair of dumbbells. You can sneak them in your closet or under your twin bed. Pull them out when you have a break between classes, or are in need of a refreshing study break. Plus, adding strength training into your busy schedule – such as this quick, full-body routine – will help you steer clear of the dreaded Freshman 15.
What You’ll Need:
- 2 dumbbells, 5-15lb.
Exercises:
- thrusters
- deadlift with high pull
- reverse lunge with bicep curl
- plie squats
- windmill
- v-ups
- push-up with row
- chest press with glute bridge
- russian twists: 1 rep = right and left
Notes:
- I used two dumbbells for the plie squats. To make them easier, use one weight.
- I used one dumbbell for the v-ups.
- You can modify the push-up with row by doing plank rows (eliminate the push-up).
- workout time: approx. 20-25 minutes

Are you going back to school?
How did you stay active in college?
I loved college! I stayed active by playing on intramural teams, joining fitness classes, and training for marathons with my best friend!
Ah yes, love this! I definitely had my dumbbells in my dorm, I did mini workouts all the time when I was watching TV or early in the morning when I didn’t have time to go to the gym.
I brought them again to my new apartment and will definitely be doing this workout, since I kind of feel like I’m in college again with my tiny room/apartment haha :)
A majority of my college career I ran on the hamster wheel, core exercises, and took Pilates classes. I wish I would have mixed things up more!
Great workout! It’s good for moms who can’t make it to the gym as well! :)
i may not have a dorm room anymore, but i am still going to do this workout!
please do! :)
Love this!!! I remember the good ol’ days when I would take little workout study breaks!! :)
