Virtual Coffee Date II

March 4, 2014 by Hillary 14 Comments

Tuesday afternoon. Where’s the coffee? Shall we get a cup (or two) and catch up? I think yes.

Processed with VSCOcam with m3 preset

If we were having coffee this afternoon, I’d first tell you that I’ve brought out my cold brew coffee maker from the back of the cupboard, and I have a jug of dark, cocoa-y coffee in my fridge. After an unnecessary streak of Starbucks sips, my bank account told me we should probably break up with The Bucks, temporarily, to save money for that beach vacation.

If we were having coffee this afternoon, I’d tell you that I finally, finally, updated my iPhone to the new operating system. Of course, of course, something went wrong and I was forced to reset my phone to factory settings. Thank the technology geniuses for iCloud; it totally saved me. Who else loves the flashlight feature?

If we were having coffee this afternoon, I’d tell you that I finally gave in and bought a new handbag that I’ve been ogling over for while. It’s totally justifiable though, seeing as that I’ve been using the same purse since my sophomore year of college. I was so excited about the 40% off sale (and free shipping) that I completely spaced to use Ebates — shucks.

If we were having coffee this afternoon, I’d tell you that I got accepted as a FitFluential ambassador. I found out last Friday and am proud to join the team. I had applied once in the past and didn’t “get in”, so I am glad I was tenacious and tried again!

FitFluential

If we were having coffee this afternoon, I’d tell you that I’m really enjoying IIN. We had our first coaching call last week, and it was splendid; I really enjoy my coach (who is all the way in Australia!). I love the variety of the lecture topics each week, and I feel inspired to healthify my already healthy life.

IIN

If we were having coffee this afternoon, I’d offer you a peanut butter oatmeal chocolate chip cookie.

PB

If we were having coffee this afternoon, I’d remind you that today is National Pancake Day; and, well, since morning is long gone… breakfast for dinner is totally okay in my book. A stack of Puffy PB Banana Pancakes are fit for the celebration.

If we were having coffee this afternoon, I’d invite you over to help me polish off my Costco-sized bag of Brussels, catch up with The Bachelor, and indulge in some Ben and Jerry’s — shhh, that’s just between you and me.

If we were having coffee this afternoon, what would you tell me?

Do you remember our first {virtual coffee} date?

Um, you definitely have to show us this purse. I have been drooling over fancy purses for a year or two now, but haven’t bit the bullet. The few purses I have owned in the last 10 years have been $40 or less. I’m definitely ready for a grown up purse. ;)

I would tell you about my career and how desperately I want to change it, but my injury has put plans on hold. I would ask you if you like what you do, everyday. I would share an almond butter muffin with you.

I do have a recipe and it is delicious! It’s easy too – just almond butter, oats, banana, honey & flaxseed. I made a batch last weekend and brought them to work and my team went nuts over them!

Love the Costco Brussels sprouts! I buy a bag every other week! I’d tell you that my booty is so sore from a Nike Club Training workout I did yesterday. Funny, even with CrossFit, spinning and my normal training, I’m sore from an almost all bodyweight workout!

“Anxiety is a symptom, not a diagnosis.” - Dr. “Anxiety is a symptom, not a diagnosis.” - Dr. George Papanicolaou

It’s no secret that I suffer from chronic anxiety and panic attacks. Or at least I don’t intend it to be. Because while there can be a lot of shame and embarrassment around both of these, I know I’m not alone in my experiences. While I’ve leaned toward the more anxious side most of life, my bothersome anxiety has steadily increased since my mid-twenties - some periods being worse than others.

It’s not a complete surprise that my mental health has taken a dip during my first full gloomy Seattle winter — in the height of a pandemic.

Here are some ways I have been nurturing my body & mind as I work with a team of practitioners to work on understanding the **root causes** of my panic, and to live with more ease.

» no coffee (not even decaf)

» meditating regularly - I’m using @insighttimer

» gentle movement

» weekly therapy sessions

» attempting cold showers (this is hard for me!): if you’re interested, you can research how this impacts the nervous system

» working with a naturopathic doctor to focus on gut + hormone health

» trying a new Rx - a decision that took years of consideration

» lastly, opening myself up to vulnerable conversations/sharing my story and my experiences in efforts to reduce any shame and connect with others

I am not my anxiety.

Leavenworth, WA • Where To Eat🍴 I was expect Leavenworth, WA • Where To Eat🍴

I was expecting all things beer, brats and pretzels in Leavenworth (not really my jam) 🍺🥨🧀, and while there’s plenty of it, I was delighted to find plenty of delicious eats for my “foodie” taste.

We went to all of these 3 places more than once during our quick stay - highly recommend!

☕️ @argonautespressobar: Located at one end of Front Street, this adorable coffee bar has delicious espresso drinks, breakfast items, and the best view!

🥐 @tumwaterbakery: Incredible pastries, avocado toast on artisanal bread that’s a feast for your eyes... and I’m eager to go back and try their wood-fired pizza!

🍜 @yodelinbroth: Literally some of the best food I’ve had (ever!), and that’s saying a lot. I had the Yodelin soup with housemade wild PNW halibut bone coconut curry broth, udon noodles, heaps of veggies and wild salmon - it was nourishing to my core as we ate it outside in 30 degree weather. I even bought some of the broth to recreate this meal at home, yum!

winter wonderland getaway ✔️ We had snow much winter wonderland getaway ✔️

We had snow much fun exploring the picturesque Bavarian town of Leavenworth, WA for a much-needed mid-week getaway to the mountains. 🏔

We stayed in a cozy little cabin @logecamps right on the Wenatchee River (one day I’ll be back to stay at the stunning @phleavenworth), played in Enchantment Park, took a drive to Lake Wenatchee, and discovered some of the best food downtown (I’m saving my food recs for another post).

Nestled between the snow-capped Cascade Mountains with the river running through town, it’s quite magical in the middle of winter. ❄️ I’m already dreaming of heading back for some summer adventures!
