Tuesday Tidbits | 4.8.14

April 8, 2014 by Hillary 15 Comments

Here we go… Tuesday Tidbits, Round 12.

1. A huge shipment from Pressed Juicery is in route to my door, so feel free to stop by during happy hour this week for a kale cocktail.

2. If you haven’t already, enter to win my $50 Albion Fit Giveaway! Albion has all the goods to brighten up your spring workout wardrobe.

3. Did you hear that I ran 8.5 miles on Saturday!? I still can’t believe it. I think it has been close to a year and half since I’ve ran said distance. Although I’ve surpassed one of my April Intentions, I do hope to accomplish one to two more long runs this month.

4. With plans of increased running, I am in the market for a new pair of sneaks. Anyone have any input on the Mizuno Wave Rider 17?

5. Bad news… my cold cereal for dinner habit has struck again. As a Love Blogger, problems like this exist when you get a  “love drop” of Power O’s, Love Grown Food’s newest product (which, by the way, gets two thumbs up).

6. My journey to become a certified holistic health coach is zooming by. The pace of my work load is picking up slightly, but I feel more inspired by IIN’s program with each new module that I open.

7. I get excited when P tells me he bought kombucha at Whole Foods. (It’s the little things.) If you haven’t caught onto the kombucha craze, read up >> Probiotics 101.

kombucha

8. Spring has officially sprung… meaning I need to make mint iced coffee and eat strawberry salads on the regular.

9. I recently made a pot of coconut curry carrot soup with carrots from my company’s estate garden. Six ingredients. Devoured it.

10. Other recipes in my kitchen as of late >> coconut cashew crunch granola // apricot oat bars // raw broccoli salad // superfood pesto // 3-minute banana peanut butter oatmeal.

Awesome post! I don’t have any advice on the shoes, but I hope some other people do! Totally trying the coconut curry carrot soup!

Loving the Mizuno Wave Rider 17’s (I have been using the Riders for years), and I have to say the 17’s run kinda short. I would try on a size up if you go to a store and pick them up. Great job on the 8.5!

AHHH you just reminded me of two things: i have a bottle of kombucha in my fridge, YESSS, and i forgot i bought a huge bag of carrots to juice. whoop! you’ve made my morning.

i have those sneakers and like them, but don’t love them. they’re certainly comfortable, BUT the tongue on the front feels really weird bc it kinda digs into my ankle area when i run. so, my point is, i like them for just wearing around, but NOT for running. hope that helps. i almost always wear mizunos, too.

I’ve always worn Mizunos and just got the 17’s. The tongue did feel weird when I first tried them on, but as soon as I went out for a run, I honestly forgot I was even wearing shoes! I’m in the middle of training for a half and have had zero problems with them so far. They feel like they have a bit more cushioning than the 16’s, so maybe they’ll last a bit longer, too.

I got a pair of the Wave Rider 17s to try and, for some reason, didn’t love them. It could have just been the run. I’ve been meaning to try them out again, but my shins hurt the entire time and they felt really cushiony. I’ve been wearing the Asics GT-2000 2s on long runs and sometimes wearing the Mizuno Wave Sayonaras on shorter runs (just because I love these even though they don’t have too much support).

      Cushiony isn’t a good thing?

It is, just maybe I wasn’t used to it.. not sure. Sorry that’s not very helpful!

I’ve worn Mizunos for years, though I’m in the Wave Inspire for stability. Love them!

I’ve never had the green kombucha…always choose ginger berry! Probiotics are so important. Something missing in so many people’s diet and such good benefits for them (I just wrote a post about them today, too!)

You reminded me that I also REALLY need to get some new tennis shoes. I’ve not heard of those or heard any reviews — the Mizuno Wave Riders — but now you’ve peaked my interest, so I will have to check them out! Thanks for mentioning them.

I found a lot of negative reviews about the Mizuno Wave Riders 17, so I was really hesitant to get them. However, after trying on a few different shoes, they were my absolute favorite. I haven’t had any problems and love them. So light and great cushioning. I might even get a second pair!

I bought it at my local co-op, but I would think Whole Foods sells it.

“Anxiety is a symptom, not a diagnosis.” - Dr. “Anxiety is a symptom, not a diagnosis.” - Dr. George Papanicolaou

It’s no secret that I suffer from chronic anxiety and panic attacks. Or at least I don’t intend it to be. Because while there can be a lot of shame and embarrassment around both of these, I know I’m not alone in my experiences. While I’ve leaned toward the more anxious side most of life, my bothersome anxiety has steadily increased since my mid-twenties - some periods being worse than others.

It’s not a complete surprise that my mental health has taken a dip during my first full gloomy Seattle winter — in the height of a pandemic.

Here are some ways I have been nurturing my body & mind as I work with a team of practitioners to work on understanding the **root causes** of my panic, and to live with more ease.

» no coffee (not even decaf)

» meditating regularly - I’m using @insighttimer

» gentle movement

» weekly therapy sessions

» attempting cold showers (this is hard for me!): if you’re interested, you can research how this impacts the nervous system

» working with a naturopathic doctor to focus on gut + hormone health

» trying a new Rx - a decision that took years of consideration

» lastly, opening myself up to vulnerable conversations/sharing my story and my experiences in efforts to reduce any shame and connect with others

I am not my anxiety.

Leavenworth, WA • Where To Eat🍴 I was expect Leavenworth, WA • Where To Eat🍴

I was expecting all things beer, brats and pretzels in Leavenworth (not really my jam) 🍺🥨🧀, and while there’s plenty of it, I was delighted to find plenty of delicious eats for my “foodie” taste.

We went to all of these 3 places more than once during our quick stay - highly recommend!

☕️ @argonautespressobar: Located at one end of Front Street, this adorable coffee bar has delicious espresso drinks, breakfast items, and the best view!

🥐 @tumwaterbakery: Incredible pastries, avocado toast on artisanal bread that’s a feast for your eyes... and I’m eager to go back and try their wood-fired pizza!

🍜 @yodelinbroth: Literally some of the best food I’ve had (ever!), and that’s saying a lot. I had the Yodelin soup with housemade wild PNW halibut bone coconut curry broth, udon noodles, heaps of veggies and wild salmon - it was nourishing to my core as we ate it outside in 30 degree weather. I even bought some of the broth to recreate this meal at home, yum!

winter wonderland getaway ✔️ We had snow much winter wonderland getaway ✔️

We had snow much fun exploring the picturesque Bavarian town of Leavenworth, WA for a much-needed mid-week getaway to the mountains. 🏔

We stayed in a cozy little cabin @logecamps right on the Wenatchee River (one day I’ll be back to stay at the stunning @phleavenworth), played in Enchantment Park, took a drive to Lake Wenatchee, and discovered some of the best food downtown (I’m saving my food recs for another post).

Nestled between the snow-capped Cascade Mountains with the river running through town, it’s quite magical in the middle of winter. ❄️ I’m already dreaming of heading back for some summer adventures!
