We are smack dab in the middle of winter. Snow may be falling by the foot and rainstorms may ruin you running parade, but that does not mean your fitness has to take a back seat until spring shows up.
One of my favorite types of winter workouts is HIIT training. HIIT – High Intensity Interval Training – can be done in the comfort of your own home (say, if there’s blizzard outside!), or at the gym for quick sweat session.
If you’re chilled to bone, HIIT will warm you up in no time. One of the things I enjoy most is that you don’t need a lot time to get an effective workout when intensity is added to interval training.
A few other reasons why HIIT is hot in the fitness world these days is because it has been shown to improve aerobic and anaerobic fitness; blood pressure; cardiovascular health, abdominal fat and body weight while maintaining muscle mass, and more! (source) It’s also been shown to increase calorie-burn after you have completed your workout – who can complain about that!?
To get my metabolism firing on a frigid weekend morning, I’ll start my day with an at-home HIIT session – you don’t even have to leave your living room. I’ll pull on a pair of my favorite Target® C9 crops and get to it!
Tabata training is one of my preferred methods of incorporating HIIT into my exercise regime.
A tabata set is classified as eight rounds of 20 seconds of work plus 10 seconds of rest (total of 4 minutes).
jumping lunges | speed skaters | frog jumps | gate swings

Great workout! I love workouts like these in general – but especially when it’s too cold to run or winter weather prevents me from getting to the gym!
This workout looks awesome! Love a quick Tabata HIIT – can’t wait to give this a try.
I enjoy HIIT workouts. My workouts do tend to change with the seasons, as I’m doing more indoor stuff when it’s cold outside. I love trying new things and keeping it fresh. It’s easy to do what’s comfortable and the same old same old for sure!
Love all the burpees included – 80 burpees is a workout all by itself :)
Huge fan of HIIT workouts, this looks fabulous!
Any workout that I can do at home in my socks is a win in my book! :)
Hehe, I don’t typically wear socks for my home workouts ;)
HIITs are awesome! I’m doing one tonight! Do you have HIIT videos or would you recommend any?
I don’t have too many of my own workout videos on my blog… yet. I love Women’s Health Magazine and PopSugar workout videos.
