Confessions of a Health Coach

coffee

1 // Rarely, almost never, like I can’t remember the last time, do I go a day without eating a piece of dark chocolate. I have a bag of dark chocolate chips in my freezer at all times. Currently, I have 60 ounces (!) of 60 percent dark chocolate chips chillin’ with organic vodka, kale pesto, and other freezer staples – there was a 2 for 1 sale at World Market!

2 // Bowel movements are a normal topic of conversation. It’s all about healthy digestion, friends.

3 // While I work with my clients on food freedom and creating a loving and trusting relationship with their body, I still encounter personal moments of negative self-talk to overcome and learn from. #iamhuman

4 // Eating a 12 oz. mason jar of peanut butter chia seed granola for an afternoon snack doesn’t phase me. I follow it with a cup of hot detox tea and get on with my day.

5 // I eat cereal for dinner more than I’d like to admit. Power O’s are my jam. #allthecarbs

6 // I have a “Moscow Mule season.” Head on over to Fannetastic Food (read: Simple Tweaks for a Healthier Life) to find my recipe for a healthier Mule.

7 // No screen time 30 minutes before bed? It is ideal in theory, but one I must practice more… but, Instagram.

8 // I have tortilla or rice chips in my cupboard at all times. Sometimes a few forkfuls of raw sauerkraut just don’t satisfy a salt craving.

9 // I have never tried “superfood famous” gogi berries.

10 // Annie’s (rice pasta) macaroni and cheese with peas and diced avocado is my ultimate comfort food.

Health Coach or not, what are your foodie/fitness confessions?

I love Annie’s Mac & Cheese! I give you props for adding avocado and peas – at least it’s a little healthier :)

Instagram is the death of me as I’m trying to go to sleep! I could probably get 30 extra minutes of sleep a night minimum without it!

Haha cool post! Definitely a nice way to show that we are all humans and not even “healthy living” professionals can say they are perfect at all times. Thanks for sharing :)

haaaa I love Annie’s! I never add in stuff though… such a purist heh. Also, cereal – but I go for the super sugary!! No screen time before bed neeevvver happens for me. It’s like, two minutes before bed I turn off the phone… and then when I wake up again at 3:00am, I’m on it for a little bit, and then back to sleep.

I super struggle with the negative self talk. Before this training program started, I decided to just let myself eat whatever I wanted, guilt free, because when the training plan starts, I’ll eat correctly. So I ate eeevvverrryyything. Like, 4.5 donuts during a work training thing. Now I’m in the training, and I am being very good with my nutrition, but it is very difficult haha.

Love these! I’m with you on the screen time before bed thing. It’s an odd comfort to scroll through social media in bed. My confessions: I eat in front of the TV often (or while using technology) and I eat nut butter straight out of the jar every single day.

As a fellow health professional, I can relate to so many of these! I so need to stop catching up on Instagram in bed. As far as confessions go – I am totally obsessed with apples and peanut butter. I eat it every single day! Also – I almost always have a stash of homemade cookies in the freezer. :-)

The Instagram struggle before bed is real, but I am trying to do better myself! Thanks for providing some realness! haha! I love number #2 above (no pun intended) it is very important and I don’t care who you are, everyone feels better on a regular schedule!

Let’s see, my confession is…. I ate an entire bag of Starburst Jellybeans over Easter Weekend. I figured it was better to get rid of them quickly! I look forward to it every year!

“Anxiety is a symptom, not a diagnosis.” - Dr. “Anxiety is a symptom, not a diagnosis.” - Dr. George Papanicolaou

It’s no secret that I suffer from chronic anxiety and panic attacks. Or at least I don’t intend it to be. Because while there can be a lot of shame and embarrassment around both of these, I know I’m not alone in my experiences. While I’ve leaned toward the more anxious side most of life, my bothersome anxiety has steadily increased since my mid-twenties - some periods being worse than others.

It’s not a complete surprise that my mental health has taken a dip during my first full gloomy Seattle winter — in the height of a pandemic.

Here are some ways I have been nurturing my body & mind as I work with a team of practitioners to work on understanding the **root causes** of my panic, and to live with more ease.

» no coffee (not even decaf)

» meditating regularly - I’m using @insighttimer

» gentle movement

» weekly therapy sessions

» attempting cold showers (this is hard for me!): if you’re interested, you can research how this impacts the nervous system

» working with a naturopathic doctor to focus on gut + hormone health

» trying a new Rx - a decision that took years of consideration

» lastly, opening myself up to vulnerable conversations/sharing my story and my experiences in efforts to reduce any shame and connect with others

I am not my anxiety.

Leavenworth, WA • Where To Eat🍴 I was expect Leavenworth, WA • Where To Eat🍴

I was expecting all things beer, brats and pretzels in Leavenworth (not really my jam) 🍺🥨🧀, and while there’s plenty of it, I was delighted to find plenty of delicious eats for my “foodie” taste.

We went to all of these 3 places more than once during our quick stay - highly recommend!

☕️ @argonautespressobar: Located at one end of Front Street, this adorable coffee bar has delicious espresso drinks, breakfast items, and the best view!

🥐 @tumwaterbakery: Incredible pastries, avocado toast on artisanal bread that’s a feast for your eyes... and I’m eager to go back and try their wood-fired pizza!

🍜 @yodelinbroth: Literally some of the best food I’ve had (ever!), and that’s saying a lot. I had the Yodelin soup with housemade wild PNW halibut bone coconut curry broth, udon noodles, heaps of veggies and wild salmon - it was nourishing to my core as we ate it outside in 30 degree weather. I even bought some of the broth to recreate this meal at home, yum!

winter wonderland getaway ✔️ We had snow much winter wonderland getaway ✔️

We had snow much fun exploring the picturesque Bavarian town of Leavenworth, WA for a much-needed mid-week getaway to the mountains. 🏔

We stayed in a cozy little cabin @logecamps right on the Wenatchee River (one day I’ll be back to stay at the stunning @phleavenworth), played in Enchantment Park, took a drive to Lake Wenatchee, and discovered some of the best food downtown (I’m saving my food recs for another post).

Nestled between the snow-capped Cascade Mountains with the river running through town, it’s quite magical in the middle of winter. ❄️ I’m already dreaming of heading back for some summer adventures!
