Currently {June 2015}

June 17, 2015 by Hillary 26 Comments

Hi there!

My birthday twin, Tina (Carrots ‘N’ Cake) recently shared a “Currently” blog post and, since we are “twins”, I was inspired to do the same.

Current Celebration // My 26th birthday on Friday!

Current Confession // At 26 years of age, I still can not successfully braid my own hair. If only I could master Lee’s fit girl hair styles – so cute!

Current Product Find // Perfect Bars

Current Plan // To plan for Europe

Current Book // Nada. I would love to read Andi‘s New York Times Best Seller, It Was Me All Along — I’ve only head incredible reviews.

Current Purchase // Car Insurance — oh, the joys of adulthood. And “heirloom tomato” pj boxers.

Current Drink // Spindrift Grapefruit Seltzer + Ice + Fresh Lime + Vodka(!)

Current Holy Moly // Now that I’m finally traveling to France, I wish I could remember something — anything! — from taking 2 years of French.

Current Show // The Bachelorette (there are some hunks this season!)

Current Want // A new camera — Canon or Nikon?

Current Obsession // These hemp tahini date bars. I’ve made ’em 3x.

Your turn — pick 2 or 3 to answer!

Happy almost Birthday, Hillary!! Woot! Okay, so let’s talk Bachelorette…who are your favorites? I am a big fan of the guy from Kentucky (I really like Southern guys), the dentist, and Ben H. Oh, and I like Shawn too!

Happy almost birthday! Yay 26! Okay I’m obsessed with the Bachelorette… I really like Shawn and Ben Z. I learned to braid on an American Girl doll when I was younger… I highly recommend it! haha ;)

As for Canon or Nikon, as I said in my tweet… I prefer Canon. This is mostly though because my dad always had Canon growing up so that’s what I was familiar with. There isn’t a huge difference between the two, honestly, but people tend to be very brand loyal and have strong opinions about which is better. I personally think Canon is a little easier to use for beginners and more user friendly. I also think a lot of bloggers (that I follow at least) tend to be Canon, so that might be helpful down the road?

      Shawn, for sure!

Where is my American Girl doll when I need to practice? Lol. I loved that doll!

Thanks for the camera insight. Then will you come to CA and teach me to use the thing? ;)

Could you point me to some basic Canon DSLR models that you may recommend I start with?

Those are two different models, just depends on the investment you are willing to make. The T5i has better image quality, better low light performance, etc. The one you linked to definitely isn’t a bad entry level camera! Down the road though you might eventually want to invest in a better lens such as this one http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/canon-ef-50mm-f1-8-ii-lens/10082166.aspx?path=410b5e08a0156af5187cd3f0d2196165en02&icmp=blogenoverviewcanont5ort5i18jun14

So, I could get the entry level camera and then eventually buy the 50mm lens? I have gotten several recs to get a 50mm.

Happy early Birthday!! I just bought a Canon Power Shot and am liking it so far! Sadly, a DSLR isn’t in my budget. I just finished “It Was Me All Along” and loved it just as much as everyone else. I highly recommend it!

That drink sounds delicious! May have to try it this weekend but sub the vodka for tequila :-)

Okay, if it makes you feel better, I couldn’t braid my own hair until about a year ago. I SWEAR upon youtube tutorials! Laurenconrad.com helped, too. ;) Also, next time you get your hair did, ask your stylist to help you. They will totally show you how to do it and help you see what you’re doing wrong. :)

Leavenworth, WA • Where To Eat🍴 I was expect Leavenworth, WA • Where To Eat🍴

I was expecting all things beer, brats and pretzels in Leavenworth (not really my jam) 🍺🥨🧀, and while there’s plenty of it, I was delighted to find plenty of delicious eats for my “foodie” taste.

We went to all of these 3 places more than once during our quick stay - highly recommend!

☕️ @argonautespressobar: Located at one end of Front Street, this adorable coffee bar has delicious espresso drinks, breakfast items, and the best view!

🥐 @tumwaterbakery: Incredible pastries, avocado toast on artisanal bread that’s a feast for your eyes... and I’m eager to go back and try their wood-fired pizza!

🍜 @yodelinbroth: Literally some of the best food I’ve had (ever!), and that’s saying a lot. I had the Yodelin soup with housemade wild PNW halibut bone coconut curry broth, udon noodles, heaps of veggies and wild salmon - it was nourishing to my core as we ate it outside in 30 degree weather. I even bought some of the broth to recreate this meal at home, yum!

winter wonderland getaway ✔️ We had snow much winter wonderland getaway ✔️

We had snow much fun exploring the picturesque Bavarian town of Leavenworth, WA for a much-needed mid-week getaway to the mountains. 🏔

We stayed in a cozy little cabin @logecamps right on the Wenatchee River (one day I’ll be back to stay at the stunning @phleavenworth), played in Enchantment Park, took a drive to Lake Wenatchee, and discovered some of the best food downtown (I’m saving my food recs for another post).

Nestled between the snow-capped Cascade Mountains with the river running through town, it’s quite magical in the middle of winter. ❄️ I’m already dreaming of heading back for some summer adventures!
