Fashionable Fitness with PUMA

September 22, 2014 by Hillary 7 Comments

The following post is sponsored by FitFluential LLC on behalf of PUMA Fitness.

While spring and summer colors may be a season of the past, that does not mean you can’t rock bright workout gear throughout the fall and winter months. I am a big fan of bold fitness fashion, so I was excited when a couple of new exercise outfits arrived in the mail as a part of a FitFluential campaign with PUMA Fitness.

The first outfit is the Fashion Comfort Look, ideal for pre or post-workout activities (i.e. traveling to and from the gym, weekend errands, or a walk in the park).

I am wearing the Studio Capsule Pants as I type up this post. I’ve never owned a pair of “sweat pants” like these before. The wide elastic waistband with drawstring and styleLoose fit with closed cuffs are just right. Plus, the dryCELL moisture wicking-material keeps you feeling dry and comfortable if you do end up breaking a sweat.

I was pleased to find the Gym Loose Tank Top in the box because I like coral colored tops in a major way. Unfortunately, since it is a loose top (obviously – for optimized freedom of movement and layering), the size I received is slightly too big for me.

While it’s bundled with the Fitness Comfort Look, I would definitely rock this for a sweaty lifting or cardio session. A combo of moisture-wicking properties and anatomically placed airflow features create superior temperature regulation. While a bit baggy, I like the unique design of the back.

In all honestly, the Narita V2 kicks are not my personal style, but I’ll admit that these lightweight sneakers are just that – light! – and comfy. These shoes feature a breathable sockliner plus an EverRide blown rubber outsole for cushioning and EverTrack high abrasion resistant rubber for durability in high-wear areas.

Outfit #2 is the Performance Look – to hit the gym (or park) runnin’!

The style of the Gym 3/4 Tight is rather wild, in my opinion. If you want flashy, these are it. For a gym rat who has tried nearly every style of capris out there, these would be your typical all-around exercise crop. There is no activity these aren’t suitable for. They fit tightly and feel secure – no tugging or adjusting needed during a spin class or set of tabatas.

The Gym Tank 3 is probably my favorite piece of the Performance Look (lucky for me, I thrive in turquoise). The feminine sport tank features Lycra ® Sport for recovery power, fit, and freedom of movement; a built-in bra for support, mesh inserts, and a pretty criss-cross strap detail.

I am quite picky when it comes to my exercise shoes, so, once again, the Mobium XT model does not do it for me, style wise. Talk about crazy colorful, graphic sneakers!

If I was able to not judge a book shoe by its cover, I might appreciate the features of these sneakers: lightweight, minimal mesh upper for breathability; Mobium Fit Band for adjustable forefront support; Mobium XT Band on the outsole that allows the foot to move and expand freely while offering support for side-to-side movement.

“Anxiety is a symptom, not a diagnosis.” - Dr. “Anxiety is a symptom, not a diagnosis.” - Dr. George Papanicolaou

It’s no secret that I suffer from chronic anxiety and panic attacks. Or at least I don’t intend it to be. Because while there can be a lot of shame and embarrassment around both of these, I know I’m not alone in my experiences. While I’ve leaned toward the more anxious side most of life, my bothersome anxiety has steadily increased since my mid-twenties - some periods being worse than others.

It’s not a complete surprise that my mental health has taken a dip during my first full gloomy Seattle winter — in the height of a pandemic.

Here are some ways I have been nurturing my body & mind as I work with a team of practitioners to work on understanding the **root causes** of my panic, and to live with more ease.

» no coffee (not even decaf)

» meditating regularly - I’m using @insighttimer

» gentle movement

» weekly therapy sessions

» attempting cold showers (this is hard for me!): if you’re interested, you can research how this impacts the nervous system

» working with a naturopathic doctor to focus on gut + hormone health

» trying a new Rx - a decision that took years of consideration

» lastly, opening myself up to vulnerable conversations/sharing my story and my experiences in efforts to reduce any shame and connect with others

I am not my anxiety.

Leavenworth, WA • Where To Eat🍴 I was expect Leavenworth, WA • Where To Eat🍴

I was expecting all things beer, brats and pretzels in Leavenworth (not really my jam) 🍺🥨🧀, and while there’s plenty of it, I was delighted to find plenty of delicious eats for my “foodie” taste.

We went to all of these 3 places more than once during our quick stay - highly recommend!

☕️ @argonautespressobar: Located at one end of Front Street, this adorable coffee bar has delicious espresso drinks, breakfast items, and the best view!

🥐 @tumwaterbakery: Incredible pastries, avocado toast on artisanal bread that’s a feast for your eyes... and I’m eager to go back and try their wood-fired pizza!

🍜 @yodelinbroth: Literally some of the best food I’ve had (ever!), and that’s saying a lot. I had the Yodelin soup with housemade wild PNW halibut bone coconut curry broth, udon noodles, heaps of veggies and wild salmon - it was nourishing to my core as we ate it outside in 30 degree weather. I even bought some of the broth to recreate this meal at home, yum!

winter wonderland getaway ✔️ We had snow much winter wonderland getaway ✔️

We had snow much fun exploring the picturesque Bavarian town of Leavenworth, WA for a much-needed mid-week getaway to the mountains. 🏔

We stayed in a cozy little cabin @logecamps right on the Wenatchee River (one day I’ll be back to stay at the stunning @phleavenworth), played in Enchantment Park, took a drive to Lake Wenatchee, and discovered some of the best food downtown (I’m saving my food recs for another post).

Nestled between the snow-capped Cascade Mountains with the river running through town, it’s quite magical in the middle of winter. ❄️ I’m already dreaming of heading back for some summer adventures!
