It was a struggle to get out of bed this morning. My clean sheets were asking for more cuddle time.
After an enjoyable, carefree, and gorgeously sunny mother-daughter weekend, I was left wanting more.
Even the thought of Hot Oats and iced coffee didn’t urge me to commence my weekday morning routine.
I suppose you could say I had a case of the Mondays.
I know I’m not the only one that regularly gives poor Monday a cold shoulder.
Sometimes I give it a sour attitude. Hey, it stole my weekend away!
Not every Monday (or any day for that matter) is going to be monumental.
Not every day will turn out the way you hoped it would.
“Every day may not be a good day, but there is good in every day.”
I am big believer in celebrating the little things in life and finding the positive in each given day.
I created Positive Mondays for this reason — to help brighten up the often dreaded day of the week.
Sometimes those things are health and wellbeing related; sometimes they are not.
But, they are all worthy of a victory tag, regardless of their relevance in the bigger (scarier) picture of life.
Today’s victory was a CrossFit Hero WOD, “Daniel.”
I was iffy about visiting the box tonight after tweaking my knee on Friday. I knew it wasn’t the smartest idea for injury sake. I planned to do the workout to the best of my ability, but not push it. I set a mental goal to finish said heroic workout in under 25 minutes.
As I walked over to the black rack to do my last set of pull-ups, I suspected the movement would be a challenge as my forearms were already cramping from the first 50. The white chalk dissolved quickly in my sweaty palms. My reps dwindled from sets of five… to three… to two as my forearms tensed and the fear of slipping off of the bar increased with each new bead of sweat.
I looked at the red numbers on the digital clock as I descended from my last repetition. 20 minutes on.the.dot.
Today’s victory was about sweat and endorphins. It was about huffing and puffing as I ran 800 meters in the blustery wind. It was about accomplishing something for the sake of my physical and mental health.
Today’s victory was celebrating strength, persistence, and determination to pursue a healthy life.
This strawberry basil bruschetta – courtesy of my gourmet roommate – was also a notable victory of the day.
What was your victory today?
