Tuesday Tidbits | February ’18

February 7, 2018 by Hillary 7 Comments

Good morning! It’s actually Wednesday, but we can all pretend I finished this post last night, right?

1 // If you missed it, I moved across the country last Thursday. I now live in Florida… which after living in California for the first 28 years of my life, it’s undoubtedly going to take some time for that fact to sink in. Moving is a lot of work – whether you move around the block or 3,000 miles away – so, needless to say, I’ve been engulfed in boxes and to-do lists.

2 // With this huge move, the last thing on my mind is finding a new gym. I know it’ll happen, but when your house is in disarray and the washer and dryer are finicky and the bathroom sink is leaking and your car is still en route to the other coast, it isn’t the top priority. Luckily I managed to unpack my weights, so home workouts it is.

3 // Since my vehicle hasn’t arrived yet, grocery shopping is not the simple errand it used to be. With any move, stocking up on pantry staples is usually on top of the to-do list. Thrive Market to the rescue (get 20% off your first 3 orders)! I’m only regretting not adding EatingEvolved coconut butter cups to my cart – next time!

4 // Another reason why I’m excited for my car to arrive is because it’s transporting my stash of Vital Proteins. I’m missing the scoop of collagen peptides in my morning cup of joe and afternoon matcha collagen pick-me-ups.

5 // Last week, I ate fries three times: duck fat fries, truffle parmesan fries, and zucchini fries. All for celebratory reasons of course. This week, I am dreaming of green smoothies in my imaginary Vitamix.

6 // Way back when, Waffle Wednesday was a thing on the blog. Well, I still adore waffles and these Flourless Vegan Banana Bread Waffles are definitely getting added to my Breakfast Recipes board for future weekend eats.

That’s it for #TuesdayTidbits tonight this morning. And about these tacos… take me back to Chico!

Do you shop at Thrive Market? If so, what are you favorite products?

Tuesday Tidbits | August ’17

August 1, 2017 by Hillary 4 Comments

Hey friends & happy August!

Summer is flying by… like how is it the eighth month of the year already!? Anyways… since I haven’t gotten my act together to put together a July Favorites post, I thought I’d pop in today with a few tidbits and to say hey!

1 // Gratitude journaling. Reading. Baking all the grain-free granola and almond flour banana coconut muffins. These things are bringing me bits of peace to what feels like an overwhelming and confusing season of life.

2 // I’m headed to Montana mañana for family vacation #2. It’s going to be a quick trip, but I’m excited to spend time in the mountains with family I don’t see nearly enough.

3 // I tweaked my (other) knee in the gym last week. Luckily, it seems to be feeling better, but I can’t say I didn’t freak out thinking about another possible knee injury.

4 // My current fixation is the gut-mind connection. I’ve been reading article after article, and it truly fascinates me. What struck me recently was this article that mentions the connection between E.coli bacteria (read: my personal story here), leaky gut, and inflammation. Mind blown.

5 // I get way too excited on Tuesday afternoons (yes, every Tuesday) when I remember Lululemon has new products up for sale. Dangerous.

6 // Got my first pair of Birkenstocks and can’t help but think of my mama every time I wear them. I mean, I know they’re “in” now, but I still can’t help but to think of my mom wearing them 15 years ago when they were uncool to my then teenage self.

That’s all the #TuesdayTidbits I have for today. Time to squeeze in a quick workout and pack!

Do you have any final summer travel plans?

What brings you ease and peace during long stretches of overwhelm?

Tuesday Tidbits | 4.8.14

April 8, 2014 by Hillary 15 Comments

Here we go… Tuesday Tidbits, Round 12.

1. A huge shipment from Pressed Juicery is in route to my door, so feel free to stop by during happy hour this week for a kale cocktail.

2. If you haven’t already, enter to win my $50 Albion Fit Giveaway! Albion has all the goods to brighten up your spring workout wardrobe.

3. Did you hear that I ran 8.5 miles on Saturday!? I still can’t believe it. I think it has been close to a year and half since I’ve ran said distance. Although I’ve surpassed one of my April Intentions, I do hope to accomplish one to two more long runs this month.

4. With plans of increased running, I am in the market for a new pair of sneaks. Anyone have any input on the Mizuno Wave Rider 17?

5. Bad news… my cold cereal for dinner habit has struck again. As a Love Blogger, problems like this exist when you get a  “love drop” of Power O’s, Love Grown Food’s newest product (which, by the way, gets two thumbs up).

6. My journey to become a certified holistic health coach is zooming by. The pace of my work load is picking up slightly, but I feel more inspired by IIN’s program with each new module that I open.

7. I get excited when P tells me he bought kombucha at Whole Foods. (It’s the little things.) If you haven’t caught onto the kombucha craze, read up >> Probiotics 101.

8. Spring has officially sprung… meaning I need to make mint iced coffee and eat strawberry salads on the regular.

9. I recently made a pot of coconut curry carrot soup with carrots from my company’s estate garden. Six ingredients. Devoured it.

10. Other recipes in my kitchen as of late >> coconut cashew crunch granola // apricot oat bars // raw broccoli salad // superfood pesto // 3-minute banana peanut butter oatmeal.

Tuesday Tidbits | 2.11.14

February 11, 2014 by Hillary 11 Comments

The first TT post debuted last February; here we are – February Fourteen – with ten more Tuesday tidbits…

1. Tonight is Bachelor night! I am always a week behind because I watch it via the Internet. I may have to try The Bachelor Workout during the show… knowing me though, I’ll probably sit on my rear end and eat gelato.

2. Speaking of gelatooo, you do not want to miss the high protein gelato giveaway!

3. Here’s something that is rather annoying: my jeans are all tight on my left leg… just the left leg! I’ve been noticing this the past few weeks and I don’t like it. The only sensible, and probable, answer I can come up with is that I have been favoring my injured right knee; by putting more of my bodyweight onto my left leg, I’ve developed more muscle mass. Let’s hope that is the story anyway.

4. Kauai countdown: 31 days! Holy guacamole. Tell me your tropical island to-dos!

5. I recently framed a bunch of Instagram photos using FoxGram – prints are very reasonable. Instagram walls are awesome, don’t you agree?

6. Want to know my new favorite things about Tuesday mornings? What’s New Lululemon emails in my inbox. Don’t worry, I don’t purchase something new every Tuesday… but I am waiting for a Lulu package from the postman.

7. I have been drinking cocktails every day… twice a day. Apple cider vinegar “cocktails” — gotcha! With my lunch and dinner, I sip on 8 ounces of cold water with 1/2-1 Tbsp. apple cider vinegar. Check out this post from Brittany about the health benefits of ACV.

8. I am craving creamy avocado pasta in a major way. Today I bought a huge *ss Bacon avocado (I swear!) at the natural food store. I must get out my food processor stat.

9. In school this week, we are learning all about raw foods and entrepreneurship/financial goals – diverse, huh? (I promise I’ll write an IIN update soon…)

10. I must replenish my beloved Costco-sized bag of organic, USA-grown frozen blueberries ASAP. My morning oatmeal just isn’t the same without that antioxidant bang.

Tuesday Tidbits | 12.10.13

December 10, 2013 by Hillary 8 Comments

1. I recently found myself dancing around my living room to this jam in the midst of a workout.

2. Monday night involved “emergency baking.” No recipe and hardly any measuring resulted in delicious almond meal cookies (similar to these).

3. I need a Target intervention — five visits in one week is a little much, wouldn’t you say? It is just too convenient living less than a mile away. Target is my happy place.

4. An article of mine was featured on the Anytime Fitness blog last Friday.

5. Tropical vacations are on the horizon in early 2014!

6. I am on a hot chocolate kick. Maybe the 20F temperatures has something to do with it.

7. This indulgence is so happening Christmas Eve.

8. Dear Santa: All I want for Christmas is Aubrey’s puppy ;)

9. It’s never too cold for ice cream. Peppermint Bark Haagen Dazs — go find some!

10. The boy and I are off to the coast in T-14 days for a dose of holiday family time and Redwood trees.

1. I have not had my usual iced coffee the past two mornings — who am I? Therefore, I apologize for the decaffeinated mistakes in this post.

2. Global warming is starting to scare me >> 77F in the middle of November!?

3. The intuitive eating is still going strong around here. The other day on Facebook, I shared an article I wrote (almost two years ago now) about mindful eating << check it out.

4. My IIN materials arrived last week in a big red box; it seriously felt as if Christmas came six weeks early.

5. In celebration of the blog turning FOUR last Sunday, I’m hosting a Love Grown Foods Oat Clusters GIVEAWAY {ends tomorrow}.

6. I have never been a big sale shopper, but I’m kind of obsessed with online shopping via Ebates.

7. Butternut Squash & Kale Lasagna Roll-Ups surely have to happen in my kitchen stat. I heart Sarah’s recipes!

8. Y’all, I don’t know what I am cookin’ or baking for Thanksgiving! What’s on your menu?

9. Zac Brown Band live in concert this Thursday with my main squeeze — excited!

10. My freezer is finally free of baked goods! Thank goodness for surprise trips to visit the boy with two containers of sweet treats in hand.

P.S. I just realized not one tidbit is related to fitness. Strange.

“Anxiety is a symptom, not a diagnosis.” - Dr. “Anxiety is a symptom, not a diagnosis.” - Dr. George Papanicolaou

It’s no secret that I suffer from chronic anxiety and panic attacks. Or at least I don’t intend it to be. Because while there can be a lot of shame and embarrassment around both of these, I know I’m not alone in my experiences. While I’ve leaned toward the more anxious side most of life, my bothersome anxiety has steadily increased since my mid-twenties - some periods being worse than others.

It’s not a complete surprise that my mental health has taken a dip during my first full gloomy Seattle winter — in the height of a pandemic.

Here are some ways I have been nurturing my body & mind as I work with a team of practitioners to work on understanding the **root causes** of my panic, and to live with more ease.

» no coffee (not even decaf)

» meditating regularly - I’m using @insighttimer

» gentle movement

» weekly therapy sessions

» attempting cold showers (this is hard for me!): if you’re interested, you can research how this impacts the nervous system

» working with a naturopathic doctor to focus on gut + hormone health

» trying a new Rx - a decision that took years of consideration

» lastly, opening myself up to vulnerable conversations/sharing my story and my experiences in efforts to reduce any shame and connect with others

I am not my anxiety.

Leavenworth, WA • Where To Eat🍴 I was expect Leavenworth, WA • Where To Eat🍴

I was expecting all things beer, brats and pretzels in Leavenworth (not really my jam) 🍺🥨🧀, and while there’s plenty of it, I was delighted to find plenty of delicious eats for my “foodie” taste.

We went to all of these 3 places more than once during our quick stay - highly recommend!

☕️ @argonautespressobar: Located at one end of Front Street, this adorable coffee bar has delicious espresso drinks, breakfast items, and the best view!

🥐 @tumwaterbakery: Incredible pastries, avocado toast on artisanal bread that’s a feast for your eyes... and I’m eager to go back and try their wood-fired pizza!

🍜 @yodelinbroth: Literally some of the best food I’ve had (ever!), and that’s saying a lot. I had the Yodelin soup with housemade wild PNW halibut bone coconut curry broth, udon noodles, heaps of veggies and wild salmon - it was nourishing to my core as we ate it outside in 30 degree weather. I even bought some of the broth to recreate this meal at home, yum!

winter wonderland getaway ✔️ We had snow much winter wonderland getaway ✔️

We had snow much fun exploring the picturesque Bavarian town of Leavenworth, WA for a much-needed mid-week getaway to the mountains. 🏔

We stayed in a cozy little cabin @logecamps right on the Wenatchee River (one day I’ll be back to stay at the stunning @phleavenworth), played in Enchantment Park, took a drive to Lake Wenatchee, and discovered some of the best food downtown (I’m saving my food recs for another post).

Nestled between the snow-capped Cascade Mountains with the river running through town, it’s quite magical in the middle of winter. ❄️ I’m already dreaming of heading back for some summer adventures!
